URGENT - ball joint
I need someone who has changed a front lower ball joint on a silvia to basically tell me how they did it, im not particularly clued up and not got many tools but have to do it myself.
Is it easier to change the whole arm? Bearing in mind it will be second hand and i wont know the state of the ball joint on it. Any info would be very helpful as i need to get either a ball joint or arm and do it ASAP.

jack up the car and remove the wheel. Undo the Two bolts holding the strut onto the bottom arm. With them undone, undo and remove the lower arm from inside mount which has a large nut (about 22mm). With the arm off clean it up and remove the circlip from under the Rubber bush. If you have a vice secure the side of the arm but not on the ball-joint. Use loads of WD40 into the were the ball-joint meets the arm. After it has soaked for a while get a socket and start hitting the ball-joint until its driven out of the arm. After cleaning the inner part up, It is preferable to have the New one pressed in to make sure it doesnt go in on an angle. I have however done it with care using a carefully sized socket checking as you go along. MAKE sure however that the joint goes in the correct way as you will see it should incline towards the inside of the car. Once that is done refit the new circlip/bush/grease and refit to the car.

Also a bit of washing up liquid helps insertion of the new bush (that sounds really perverted...LOL... ).
Regards, Ian.
