:o sorry

Im seriously interested in assembeling all the kit for this, or paying someone else so map my ECU.

Do get all the kit together one bit that is distinctly laking is a rom file/locations file to use with LiveEdit. Then I need an emulator chip for live editing, and a EPROM burner to save the final mappings to. Oh and a load of earthing straps so nothing gets fried.

Is there a difference then between the MK1 and MK2 ECUs? or even with the ECU from a CA18ET powered bluebird?

The mk 1 ecu doesnt have a rev limiter.

The Mk1 is completely different inside

Wocketfast 11-01-2007 11:36

Any one have pics of the inside of a MK1, I have a MK2 one which I will open in due course (once I have sold the bluebird)

I also have a spare bluebird one so I will see if that has the same chips inside.

Does anyone happen to know if the ECUs are interchangeable even though they are different?

In all honesty am I better off looking at an aftermarket ECU with it being cheaper and more flexible in the long run?

Search on SXOC, both different ecu's are there in a thread in s12 section.

The ecu's are interchangeable.

Its not worth going aftermarket if time is invested in mapping the standard ecu.

According a good contact on club s12:

"MKI has two plugs on the ECM and MKII has 3 plugs. MKI has vacum dizzy where as MKII has electronic advance. you can't put a MKII ECM in a MKI or vise versa. as for MKII tuning I know a shop that wants to crack the ECM they just need time and an extra ECM...so this is not going to happen anytime soon. My best advice would be to try megasquirt, and blaze new trail. there is also a guide to set a base map for it so that you can limp it to a shop to have it tuned. That is what I would suggest. It is cheap, easy to tune, and works with damn near anything. the only hard part is getting the right info the its ECM. There are tutorials however on their site. Do a Google for MegaSquirt and see what you think"

i've used mk1 ecu on the mk2 and vice versa and had no probs.

Yeah, and Megasquirt really isnt that easy to install...
