This happened to me twice in a manta but with a fiberglass bonnet,first time it ripped totaly off,second time it stuck to windscreen,didnt bust the glass though luckely.

Never had a bonnet fly open before, had the drivers side windscreen wiper fly off on the motorway miles from home in the pissing rain though!

My car has been into the bodyshop and is all fixed now :). I had the wingmirrors colour coded along with the door handles and the bonnet badge smoothed at the same time.
