One more quick one as I'm going to have a go at fixing the clock illumination tomorrow.

Firstly in the wiring diagram there is a "time control unit" do all the silvia's have that? Because is seems to suggest some do and some don't. If so will my UK prefacelift have it?

Secondly how does the cowling the goes over the top of the clocks on the dash come off? Clipped in? Had a 2 second look and couldn't see the obvious solution.

Cheers as always :)

theres 2 red strips that pop off and theres 2 screws behind them, then it just pulls out, don't forget to take your trip meter reset button off.

Cheers mate. A legend as always...I'd have been pfaffing around in there for ages with a flat blade before I noticed that!

Any ideas on that time control unit thingy, what ever that is?

The time control unit was not fitted to the S12 in this country but they fitted it to the Bluebirds. It gives added features like interior light fade, a timer for the heated rear window, push button illumination control, a lights left on chime instead of the horrible buzzer, variable intermittent wipe, a pulse for a digital clock and it can also provide 20 seconds of power to the windows after the ignition is turned off to give you time to close them with the switches.
What is funny is the timer on the heated rear window was only fitted to the S12's that were sent to Saudi Arabia. I have fitted one to my S12 but the wiring for the interior light fade was a nightmare to work out. I also fitted the step and foot-lights at the same time.
