latest pics, fitted external wastegate but not yet made screamer pipe
also shows new large ally V-mount intercooler and rosejointed 'gantry' to support weight of turbo when manifold is glowing red;)

CNHSS1 29-03-2007 19:46

ooops doesnt show IC, but lets pretend it did eh?:wack

s13eater 29-03-2007 19:46

craig mate,i'd put a support in for the wastegate pipe, mine cracked with the weight, but was ok with a support.

CNHSS1 30-03-2007 09:57

cool, cheers for the advice, will do:)

Magnum 03-04-2007 05:54

I like the V-mount intercooler set up. Are you going to box it off with the Radiator?

CNHSS1 04-04-2007 18:03

yeah it will be all boxed off from underbonnet temps but the water rads in the boot!;)

James H 04-04-2007 21:19

Lots of hard work gone into that, really good job. Would love to have the facilities to do work like that.

PukkaSilvia 04-04-2007 23:02

Impressive. I'd love to see that on the circuit at some point :)

CNHSS1 05-04-2007 09:23

James
this winter all the works been done in my single garage at home, but in previous years ive used the workshop at work at nights and weekends.

Pukka
yeah it would be good to catch up at some point mate. :)
this season is a late start for me, and will mostly be at sprint or hillclimb circuits rather than race circuits as im getting married in august and am struggling with time and cash, but next year will be a full-on campaign again:D
will post up which meets im doing when the cars finished and entries are confirmed.

CNHSS1 11-04-2007 12:59

ext wastegate screamer pipe finished and exited thru the lower wing just above the sill

30psi 17-04-2007 18:37

Looks all good but I bet in hindsight you think it was a bad idea using an external wastegate. Looks like it was a bit of a pain in the rearend to sort especially with the screamer piping.

I like the retro cutting of the IC.

CNHSS1 18-04-2007 10:09

yep total pain in the arse!! i dont want it exhausting under the car or in the engine bay so its turned out to be a pain. i just hope it does spike less and control better than a normal actuator. if it doesnt itll come off as its extra weight and complications. if it does work, thn i may look at rejoining it back to the main exhaust if its too loud or unreliable

30psi 18-04-2007 10:10

Is it adjustable?

CNHSS1 18-04-2007 10:50

as far as i know, but have a boost solenoid valve connected to ecu. with the two tappings on the wastegate, im right in thinking that the one holds the valve shut whilst the other goes to the boost solenoid?

30psi 18-04-2007 11:05

Can't remember to be honest. Sometimes you only used one of the tube's and it depends on the type of controller.

s13eater 18-04-2007 13:21

with the profec b, you use 2 parrallel openings on the solenoid with external wastegate, but with an actuator, you use opening on front and one of the sides.

CNHSS1 18-04-2007 15:30

not ready to pipe it up yet but will ask you guys advice when id do:D cheers
just taken the IC to be welded, should be a few days as they are flat out and i dont want to use someone else i dont know

halliwell 19-04-2007 19:41

turbo mount

hi Craig,
Did you do Aintree last year and lend me a mikala jubilee clip, if so do you remember. Fantastic work on the manifold would be interested in the same when i mount the t28 on mine s12, i,m only in Lancs so if your doing local events we should meet up, had a chat with Dave from 3 sisters territory he mentioned that you were working hard on manifold. looks like you have new i/c but an alternative is a nissan gti, its a substancial bit of kit i use one had no problems it seems to have great capacity.
To get the most out of the ecu set up might be worth a trip up to Wayne a Rochdale. Hope to see you on sprints this year Fraser.

kennyboy 20-04-2007 00:41

Wayne the tuner

I can send that about Wayne he is the pal keep going on about that maps my motor:D

CNHSS1 20-04-2007 08:44

Hi Fraser, no it wasnt me but ill bet it was Crouchie B (Bryan) in his scimitar SST.
although ive been a regular at aintree over the years (and hold the class record ;) ), i didnt compete there last year and wont be there on the 28th either as the cars still in bits
the IC is sorted, just awaiting the welding to alter the outlet. i wanted something brand new really arther than a second hand part so it least i know its perfect and clean.
Crouchie lives near Newton Aycliffe iirc, but im in shrewsbury which is miles from you guys, although i do know Dave and have met him at the 3 Sisters circuit before now.
as for the ecu, ive heard that wayne knows his stuff, but i use an Emerald ecu so i get the designer of it (Dave Walker, Tech editor for Circuit Driver, Full Throttle, PPC and was the ex Cars and Car Conversions guru too) to do all the mapping.
what car do you run on the sprints? an s12? ive seen a couple over the years, one at 3 sisters and the other at Hethel Lotus test track in Norfolk.
maybe see you at anitree on 28th

CNHSS1 26-04-2007 12:25

IC plumbed and ready to go.
needs cooling system testing (all new) ext waste gate plumbing and remap on monday at emerald.

Youve really done a awesome job there. some lovely design and fabrication, Id love to own your car

s13eater 27-04-2007 01:02

yeah, lookin good craig.

CNHSS1 27-04-2007 09:24

cheers Shaun, and Pukka, no you wouldnt, it drives me bloody crazy, sodding odd old plastic cars. if i dont get out there on track soon im gonna need one of those nice white jackets that does up at the back and a padded room.
suppose its all in a days work for you though, working on old plastic cars, albeit gorgeous Lolas etc

s13eater 27-04-2007 09:27

is there any events at thorsby this year craig ? if so, any iea what date it will be ?

CNHSS1 27-04-2007 10:18

yes mate, 15th/16th september. I wont be there unfortunately as our championships not going there this year, think we are at Debden or Cadwell Park that weekend.

kennyboy 27-04-2007 13:19

Manifold

Nice work mate, cant wait to see the power figs:)

CNHSS1 30-04-2007 20:49

well after getting totally pissed off with the car, part stripping the oil feed hose thread in the turbo core casting and other little dramas, i snuck off to Aintree to have a watch of the other scimitar guys for a bit of relaxation and inspiration. Good day 2 x SS1 turbos, 1 x SST turbo (Crouchie B) and a Silvia! Good to meet ya Fraser, sorry i couldnt stick around longer to chat, but will catch up with ya at another event soon.
I spent all day sunday (my birthday!!) until 12.15am monday morning getting the car ready for the dyno at Emerald in Norfolk. Left home at 5.30 this morning and spent most of the day in the dyno cell with the Legend, Dave Walker. My ecu now has 3 maps, all switchable from the dash and ran fine except for th oil feed leak which Dave temporarily fixed by maching the pipe fitting to utilise the couple of threads that arent shagged in the turbo core.
Ext wastegate worked fine once he'd played with it a bit and didnt spike anything like a normal wastegate, so was worth all the ball ache.
Id like to say a BIG THANKYOU to everyone that has offered advice and pointed me in the right direction with the project, cheesr guys:cool:

s13eater 30-04-2007 20:54

any bhp figures mate and well done on all of the work;) .

PukkaSilvia 30-04-2007 21:03

excellent news. bang some ptfe tape on the thread or change it to the flange type oil inlet if you can with your turbo

what psi are you running in your full boost map

CNHSS1 01-05-2007 09:57

car was running 16 psi previuously. i now have an 8psi map, 12psi map and a 15psi map. it made one bhp less at 12psi than at 16psi previously.

Pukka and S13 Eater you have PM;)

30psi 01-05-2007 10:21

Well spill the beans then Craig, what did it make?

CNHSS1 01-05-2007 13:01

some pics and crappy videos off my phone from dyno runs.
and yes that is the tubular manifold glowing red!!
fair play though Halfords VHT paint has stayed on:)

That looks like one serious bit of track kit! When/where you next out in it?

my garage, for the next month solidly i reckon lol

should have been Shelsley walsh Hillclimb on the 12th May, but too many 'little' jobs to do, so Harewood hillclimb June 3rd, MIRA sprint June 16th, Prescott Hillclimb July 21st, Loton Park Hillclimb july 29th/30th, anglesey Ty Croes circuit sept1st/2nd, all subject to entries being excepted.
will be doing more, will post dates when i know them.

JackieFan 01-05-2007 16:55

It would be nice see it in action, I'll have to work out which one is most local to me though!
