*edit* my local car spares shop in ockendon, deal with KYB so they gonna phone for a price tomorrow. if they want a motgage for them i may give your spares a try martin cheers.
the cheapest i've managed to find them is 56+vat for the fronts and think bout 46+vat for rears! and they r next day so they r still makin them!
double piston gas sports shock or somethin:confused: |
that for the pair or each????? have to check these things.
surely that each, i got mine from rrd, with a discount for £200, that was all 4.
yeah thats each!
thought so, well one of my mates works at a place that has a few suppliers, he gets the parts though work at cost, so hopfully he can give me some good news :D
my new rear springs are now fitted, i only orderd them on friday and i had a call last nite that they would be ready for 11am today and they were, big thanks to valley springs at chesterfield.
HUUUUUUUURRRRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-40mm and 350lb springs are done, picked them up today from S Yorks Springs. just need to fit them them I'll let you know the difference. |
How are they Shaun?
they feel stiffer than the avo's, but i don't need them as stiff as magoo, as if i go to stiff i will suffer on my 1/4 starts.
-40mm rears 350lb and avo fronts fitted, instead of the old wallowy beast it was it just grips and tries to headbutt the horizon. Had a little cock behind me in a saxo coming off a roundabout in second, gave it some and it snaked a little and left him wondering what the hell had hit him :D
Ride is still comfortable, looks slightly lower at the back than the front. Well pleased. |
5 months later & my springs have arrived, what a set back!!!

springs
What spec did you go for then, after reading this lot tempted to go for new rears as mine are about fooked:D :D
i called them a month or 2 ago and he wanted like £80 odd quid for a pair!
£30 for each spring £10 p&p and £10 odd vat.....he wouldent do a better price so i left them. |
sorry to bump and old thread, but i have my shocks now, thanks to kyle, was good to meet you.
im gonna put on new springs with them too, im gonna go for 350lb -25mm will valley springs do these for me shaun??? and if so whats there number m8 please. i could do with a set of Front Tie Rod (strut bar) Bushes to for the front, assuming thats the bar that stops the wheel flapping forwards and backwards?? best place to get them from anyone??? Cheers. |
superflex do the tie rod bushes (280zx) and the link pin bushes( universal) 10mm front i think, 8 mm back, , also do the D anti roll barbushes,i look you the number up for vally springs.
valley springs 01246 / 451981.;)
350lb springs are too hard for Road use
ive got 300lbs ones atm, although they may be weak now, but they are crap.
also seperate issue, shaun, with your springs from valley springs, when you jack the car up, are they loose???, mine rattle about in the wind, and the MOT tester wasnt best please, and gave me an advisery ticked dangerous, so im hoping to solve that too!!! |
my rears arn't to bad as i only went 25 or 30mm on the rear, japster has some check straps on his that i notices, plastic sleeved steel cable with a loop at each end that is bolted to where the shock sits at the bottom and to the side of where the spring sits up top, this stops it dropping to far.failing that, we could do with matching some shorter rear dampers up.
the rears i can sort soming out with, the lower shock mounts are bolted onto the arm, so im looking to get a set of spax adjustables for a mk2 escort, and remake the mounts whith slightly high holes as the mk2 escort shocks are 3" shorter but thats just an idea.
on the fronts im only looking for -25mm same as i have atm, but i dont want them loose on jacking up. |
what i did when i had the std front struts with avo springs is, weld 2 u shaped pieces to the top cup, then thread the top of the spring through, then on the bottom, drill 3 evenly spaced holes into the bottom spring cup, then make 3 z shaped lugs to hold the spring to the seat.
ahh yeah, i remember you saying about this before, might try that.
shaun, i phoned valley springs today, they told me they havnt got any pattern for my car, so i would need to supply them with an old spring before they can quote me on them.
did you have to give them a pattern when you got yours done??? or if your passing could you pop in and give them any info they need and ill phone the next day or somin. i cant send them one of my springs, coz then my front spoiler would drag the floor when i drive to to work, lol |
hi mate, i can call in on thursday as i'am near them when i go shopping, i've been past today, i have the front and rear hieghts and poundages in the manual, but could you count me the coils on front and rear springs and if you have any vernier calipers, then perhaps measure me the thickness of the wire on both, cheers.;)
the manual says the wire size is 13.2mm how will they get the ride height right?? i want -25mm rates 350lbs. if the rate is to high, what cons would there be???? i dont mind the ride being really bumpy, its not a family car, i want it cornering like its on rails. i dont want sloppy :D
the manual gives you the std spring length as well, he puts it all into a pc program and it gives you the lenght ,rate, wire thickness and how many coils you need.
do you recon he can do it with a lazy top coil, so i dont have to mess about making brackets to tie them in the strut. you still need me to count the coils???
i really don't know mate, but if you have a word with him and ask him what he wants, then i'll go down with the manual.
they dont seem to know what they need, so i have to give them everything i can, so i have a little measure up in a bit. dont really feel that confident doing it this way, but i guess its hard to get anything off the shelf for this car these days :(
superflex should have mine and riches parts that we ordered on pc,the part numbers are listed on here as well.
i meant these springs, when i rang them its almost as im talking a different language, i fear i will end up with something that dont fit my car, or the ride height of a 4x4.
Cheers for your efforts on this, i do appriciate it. |
lol, sorry mate, got the threads mixed up.:o
