Pictures of my Silvia S12 and me with Shakin Stevens !
Taken in Portobello, Edinburgh on a so called Sunny day in Scotland !
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...66/silvia4.jpg The Wheels are 17 inch Mangels with 205/40/17 tyres and its fitted with new (- 60mm) PI springs, there are a couple of engine mods which include a K&N filter, A front mounted intercooler from an S13, valve to increase boost, a plumbers cap to replace boost limiter and a boost gauge fitted on the dash. Presently running at 12psi http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...66/silvia3.jpg Dont Ask about the bonnet scoop as I didnt put it there - The previous owner did !! I am trying to get some bonnet vents from an RS turbo/cosworth to replace it with. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...66/silvia2.jpg [b]This is a great car to drive on the road and at track days. Genuine 65'ooo miles. Meeting Shaky back stage in Perth, Scotland on his recent tour of the UK, I have sadly been a fan for years, I must have been bad in a previous life !! http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...shakyandme.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...6/silviart.jpg |

Waheyyyy! - My first post here! :D
Sorry guys - New to this - I've attached this as a file, but hopefully it's worked okay (no webspace at the mo')... My mate took it a few years ago, at Billing (I didn't have my nice new indicators then!) :) Den. If not, I'll try to get it hosted somewhere, and link to it/them... :o http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/6...ingcrop9ll.jpg |
Looks nice Den. Has it changed much other than that. Hows the engine running these days?
|
nice to see ya postin den, she looks well, if i'am not mistaken that me in the back ground and me silvia T- shirt and me blue beastie.

Cheers guys... That there man is indeed your good self matey.... Cheers Pukka - She don't look quite so good at the mo' - Needs a lick of paint! :D Engine's running sweet, but the roller-bearing turbo's not so powerful as the old one :( ...Still, it spools up f*cking quick, so it's swings and roundabouts! - Far more driveable now, so it'll do... for now... :D All the best guys - Should be a fun event! |
520bhp from the 1.8....:nod
last time i saw a power run from that car was a few year ago & managed 300bhp at the wheels + plenty of smoke. talking to a guy last year, he had spent £35.000 + on getting 560bhp from the det block which he claimed to be the max from this engine, unreliably of coarse. you must have spent big dollar & have big pockets geez |
den only spent around 14k to get that power i think, 35k is ridiculous, he must of been ripped of some where along the line.
|
Only lol :D

At JAE, she'd made 419bhp at the wheels (about 490bhp / fly, by all accounts), but Thor squeezed a little more out of her... :D Drove beautifully too, apart from the obvious .... nothing... nothing... nothing..... BAAAANG! - There u go! - nice, apart from people complaining about having to retrieve their boll*x from the back seat. I much prefer the (admittedly slightly weedier) roller bearing turbo though - more driveable, and you never know - Simon may tweak it to give more welly at a later date... :) ...and Shaun's dead right - engine and tubbie haven't cost more than 14k, which although it's a sh*tload of wonga, has bought me one of the most heavily modded (and reliable (so far!) ) S13 /DET engine and turbo combinations - I'm pretty sure most people chasing these type of power figures have either spent in excess of that, or have reliability problems as a result of not doing so! (note - Before I get flamed - I say MOST, not all) As regards mr. 35k - Would that be Rich? - He was running 550-560 on standard fuel, and 615 on 118 octane - If I whacked 118 octane in the tank and advanced the ignition, I'd make close to 600 bhp (safely *apparently*), but then again, I hear Rich's S13 is alas no more, which until I know the cause, I'm wary of doing the same... |
to be honest, i think the smoke rob is on about is the richness of the fuel mixture on full load, mine is the same on full throttle, mine belches black through gear changes, not so much now as i've had it trimmed up for my run to france, but having a little extra as you let the throttle off helps with piston cooling on high speed runs.:) by the way den, i did like that feel of the big tubby, it made me grin like fuck:D i was still smiling 2 hours later, i'll have to take you a spin den, see what you think of the old 8 valve.:)

Just took mine up the road for a feel of what she's like - Still goes well :D - though lotsa worrying noises  - f*ck it - Should be fun! - Just realised I have to get my licence back pronto though!  - Will send my piccie and passport off tomorrow, they do a speedy service if you send it to the right mailbox... :D Fingers crossed! |
the smoke that I saw was from the block...! not the zorst. im looking forward to seeing this massive power output in this comings JAE events rolling road. ( I presume that den will lend his beast to the rolling road for all to see) & discuss' in the specs to get this power at k's lower than a prolific tuner that spent 35k+ to get a little better power).
the power output (520bhp) WILL embarrass many a jap car there so in hope that den shows up to give the other jap folk a kicking's up than ass S12 style.. imagine that guys.. a 20 yr old car kicking modern jap stuff please den, turn up & show your S12 500+bhp motor.. it will rock the jap world.. + get it mag featured & plant the S12 on the spot of the tunnig world.. please.. please... please.. |
I saw it at last Billing jae get the high 400s and it sounded very healthy then

Tell you what Pukka - For Rob's benefit, can I send you my scans from Thor? - They show a healthy 442 at the rears, and that was at 28psi (On a good, cool day, she was making a little more...) And Rob? - Sorry to disappoint you mate, but like I say, I have a smaller turbo on now - Not too happy about it at first, and pretty sure it's not making as much horsepower, but it's got a good power curve now, so until I get a bigger one again, it probably WON'T be hitting 520 again :( - but hey, I'm honest about it, and mentioned that earlier, before I was asked to prove it... Still, I'll be interested to see what she DOES make, and like I say, there'll be power graphs uploaded for the unbelievers... Incidentally, my car owes me around £25k, BUT £11k was spent on other areas (like rip-off spray jobs, paint, bodywork, suspension, brakes - all the other stuff that goes around the engine to ensure I don't kill myself with the PROVEN 520BHP... - an' I still skimped some on the brakes, etc!) ;) :D Seriously - 1k buys you a GOOD S13 DET from Simon (rebuilt and overhauled) - £3,500 buys a state-of-the-art roller bearing tubbie and custom manifold (probably less as you guys know where to look!), but the modified gearbox (and widened tunnel), race-spec gearbox internals, clutch, prop, diff, ECU and mapping, and of course MAJOR internals work to ensure that the block, as well as the drivetrain, can handle this sort of power, costs the better part of £7k - £9k.... (and even then, I didn't change the driveshafts, and one's whining (the other got chewed into pieces by the sheer power a while ago...)... Basically, it can be done for £14k quite easily as the parts and conversions have already been developed and tested, so cost less - Normally the argument goes "What a muppet! - Spending £14k on his engine work..." - So hey - I appreciate the change of opinion! :D Seriously though - I made my horsepower on the SAME rollers, on the SAME day, as Nemesis's 450 (or was it 550?) bhp RX7 made erm.... slightly less than claimed.... (317 at the rears, upped to 330 after Thor had done an on the spot tune-up for them) - So, I doubt the figure was exaggarated for the crowds! :D All the best guys, and yep - It would be nice to slap her on the rollers again - I ALWAYS do whenever Thor are at the events - I love the noise and the experience of watching people blown back when they open up the throttle - good stuff! :D :D |
yeah, ok..... :nod
|
LOL I can upload it for you Den. It would be great to see and put up on the board. Maybe a new sticky power graph thread may be a nice thread to put on the board. Was this using the td04 turbo Norris Designs sell?.
14k is a fair amount for a ca18det running that kind of spec even though Most of that will be in labour costs. Engine builders do not charge peanuts. 35k is not an unrealistic price for a 1800 4 pot race engine but not the Det. You can pick up a bare det engine for 50 quid Whereas for 35k you would expect it to be building a late 60s/70s lotus twin cam which costs 2k just for the head  Email to [email protected] |
