how much is that doggy on the driveway... the one with the waggaly tail...
hello all, i'm off to buy my first s12 on sunday
but i dont know how much to give  it's white on an f plate, 107k, few surface rust patches on the pannels and has a blowing manifold gasket. any ideas on what would be fair ?????? also is there anything terminally bad i should check for??? i really don't need another nail on the drive :o cheers all;) |
£650 would be a good offer. Is it taxed and Mot'ed?
|
that sounds right make sure the turbos ok and check for mayo around the oil cap as that would be a no no mate unless you get it really cheap and drop another engine in ;)
|
I paid £500 for mine
Exhaust was blowing Theres rust on the arches, some on one of the sills Shocks were knackered Engine and interior plus the rest of the body work is A-ok though Just start really low and work up to a decent price! ;) |
cheers for the advice lads,
it's tax'd and tested untill end of october and as i said it looks a bit scabby rust wise but didn't see any on the sills. back box is rotten through though so it sounds like a tractor! of for a propper look now though so i get to drive the beast! :) lets hope she's a good un;) cheers |
well im back... and happy :D
been to take a proper look and drive of the car. it's better than i thought body wise (amazing what a wash will do) and the interior is as near to mint as you could get! also drives well with no clutch slip or judder and all the electrics work :) down side is a small hole (50p size) in the floor next to the drivers door... badly jacked up maybe??? back box is rotten where it joins the pipe and has split off, needs a new tyre and the the suspensions a bit soft :ghey any ideas how much that lot might cost to fix? welding should be a couple of pints to a mate, and a tyre about 45notes. but a back box? cant find any listed any where and i don't fancy giving Mr Nissan a tickle for one:( so any ideas would be appretiated any way, if its not going to cost the earth to put right im buying it. i got about 250-300 and he wants about 450 so it all comes down to the cost of bits so i can haggle. cheers all |
the standard backbox is really restrictive, so your better off just binning it and getting a cheap universal jobbie:)
|
I just cut the backbox off at the 45deg pipe just after the axle. The got hold of 3 2" clamp and 1x45 deg bend 1/2m straight pipe and a tip from Jetex stuck it all together with a bit of putty and an instant 2" straight through tailpipe was born. Just had to mess about making a support for it at the end!! The whole lot without any shipping was less than 50 notes and it has some pleasant performance benefits too! :)
http://www.nissansilvia.co.uk/vbb/sh...hlight=backbox Suspension is straight forward.. £96 for some lowering springs from AVO (www.motorsportworld.co.uk) Plus Monroe do replacement inserts for the front at £86 per corner and the telescopic on the rear are £36 each Failing that keep an eye out in the for sale area for some going cheep! EDIT - http://www.nissansilvia.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=1123 Northerner is getting shot of some Monroe inserts for the front |
i got a good discount from adam ae86 off of the sxoc, he got me kyb's all round for £202.

got to be said you lot are a friendly bunch on here, i wasn't expecting people to go to this much trouble on my behalf being a newbie and all, so thanks :) it's all much appreciated! the back box i think i can handle now you've said about just cutting it off and welding up a straight through pipe, probably the best option. it's the suspension thats got me intrigued though  has anyone got pic's or measurements of the front shocks (inserts) and their top mounts please? also measurements of the springs (length and diameter)? and if theres any available of the rear that would be spot on to. i have a dead golf gti with insert suspension thats covered all of about 6feet since fitted so its mint. if it measures up then i think i could give it a try. also got a set of springs from avo for a crx that i could hack about. might drop them a line to see if their the same. cheers |
not worth bothering with mate, just use the proper s12 kybs or monroes with lowering springs its easier
|
If you do want to go down that road I've got a nearly new standard back box that you can have for free if you can pick it up?
Only thing is that it'll need a short section welding on where it joins the system as the previous owner chopped it off to fit the one that was made out of rice crispies! :ghey I can post some pic's tonight if your interested I'm in Leighton Buzzard BTW |
thanks for all the help,
i'm going to give the guy another call today, we left it that i was going to price up all the work and parts and get back to him mid week. all going well i should get the car for sensible money but if not ill keep looking and maybe come back at mot time to see if he's changed his mind. problem is if i pay what he wants then add the cost of sorting it i could buy an s13 with tax and mot... would much prefer an s12 though... lots on ebay this week too cheers :) |
double posting... like turning up to the party to early... not so cool... but hey...
i've decided this silvia is not for me :( just to much work in one hit to make it viable. if it was canery cheep then i would, but the guy has a good car and no way can i get it at a price that gives me the spare cash to be fixing it up... on the plus side i did give hime the club site address and he seemed pretty keen, so maybe we have another member on the way... cheers for the help... still looking... |
