Engine out

ok, i'm thinking of pulling my engine out in the next week or two, as i need to helicoil a exhaust manifold stud..... i'm also thinking of porting a inlet manifold to take a s13 throttle bodie and bolting that on. i'm gonna fit my t25 and hope it doesent smoke its ass off, and block the water lines to it. also i'll probably fit new belts, anyone think of anything else that might be worth doing while its out:)

It would be rude not to do the steering rack bushes, as they are alot easier to get to with the engine out.

Cam belt and new clutch!

datdrift 25-09-2006 13:16

i changed the clutch pressure plate few weeks ago for a s13 exedy one, but the clutch cover i got with it dident fit so ive still got the old cover on....
how much do you reckon the steering rack bushes would be?
as for cambelt.... ive not done one before, but i suppose it would probably be a good idea to do it:rolleyes:

I think S13 bushes are £40, but don't MMR do them? I think one of the s13 bushes is different though.

As for the clutch cover, I'm surprised it didn't fit. This is what makes it better over the S12 clutch. The S13 clutch has a clamping force of 550kg opposed to the 450kg of the standard S12 one.

I would try to change it again when the engine is out

datdrift 25-09-2006 13:47

yes mmr do one of the steering rack bushes i think, but i'm not sure if it would fit, as there cars are LHD?
i only paid £30 for the clutch, so i think its got the wrong cover with it, as it doesent fit onto the locating dowels....i think i should be able to get hold of a used standard s13 clutch cover for free of someone tho, so i could fit that:)

Nice bit of info there............thks :)

Clutch release bearing
engine mounts
clean the engine bay
tidy the wiring loom and clean contacts and terminals
change oil filter

the clutch you have isn't for a KA24 (240sx) s13 is it? if so you can make it fit with a bit of careful hole slotting

datdrift 26-09-2006 12:49

the clutch might well be for a ka24, ive been trying to think what else it could have been for, and that sounds very possible?? heres a couple of pics of it, the first one its under a standard s12 cover, flush at the top to show its sliightly bigger, and the second is of it on a s12 flywheel, the 2 top dowels are lined up and that pushes the other one out this much.....so i might have to try some careful slotting on all the holes? i was just gonna do this before, but dident want to unbalance the fly.....

also i might as well pull the sump off and clean the bottom end, and maybe have a look at fitting the det crank girdle?:)

turbomike 26-09-2006 13:19

good idea really, ive found engines with partly blocked strainers before and you can get rid of any crap in the bottom of the sump too

30psi 26-09-2006 13:36

I wouldnt take the sump off if I was you. Your engine is very clean inside anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I think being a high rev drifter your engine would be more likely to throw a rod then have an issue with the crank.

datdrift 26-09-2006 13:42

yeah maybe, what do you think i should set my rev limit to when drifting? at the moment i have it around 6k normally....cos thats where it redlines, but on bb turbo's and mk2 silvias the solid redline tends to start at 6,500?

30psi 26-09-2006 13:52

I'd stick to 6 to be honest :)
