which dump valve noise

Which dump valve am i looking for that makes like a chirping noise. its not external wastegate by the way.
cheers
p.s would i need a t piece and what size?

You wont get a chirping noise via a dump valve, the chirping noise comes when the air is forced back through the turbo and sounds through the air filter. However this is mildly quiet compared to when an external wastegate is used.

You technically only need a dump valve at very high boost.

I think the chatter noise sounds best

yeah but i like dump valve noise as well so am gonna go for one. Hows best to fit it??
can i put a t peice between the intake and turbo just cut it and join with samco hose what size do i need??

i think my dump valve pipe is 1" internal dia, so all you need is a bit of tube 1" or 25mm external dia bout 60mm long and get it welded in the pipe between the turbo and the throttle body, and then get a bit of samco or similar 1" internal bout 100mm long to connect the valve to, then the vacum pipe on mine is 'T'ed off the vac pipe that goes to the fuel pressure reg.

hope this helps.

yep weld a outlet on your pipework preferably around 2 inches or so away from where it bolts to the inlet manifolds throttle body. Then the reference pipe that needs to go on top of the dump valve can connect up to a disused blanked outlet that you can find attached to the bulkhead above the hydraulic clutch fluid pot

but the inlet pipe is alloy is it not and i dont know anyone who can weld alloy. Could i solder it? would it be strong enough? The t piece i was talking about as like this also would the dump valve be ok?

not the inlet manifold, (yes that is alloy) you weld it in the crossover pipe, that connects onto the turbo, over the engine, then fits onto the throttle body and the idle managment, if someone already has one fitted to the crossover pipe, can they post it up for these guys please, i have my DV on my cozzie IC.

ollymk1escort 23-10-2006 22:02

Oh well if the crossover is steel i can weld that.

umpkin 23-10-2006 22:56

when i bought my car, the pipe outlet for the DV was welded at where the red arrow points, at the back side to the idle supply pipe.

i have my dump valve on that little black pipe that comes of the boost pipe. i just used a t piece from a plumbers and a bit if samco. no need to weld and looks and works well enough

ollymk1escort 14-11-2006 13:32

Ive just fitted my dump valve. Ive done it the way you suggest for now and mounted it on the black pipe that comes off the boost pipe. Will this give the same effect as putting it on the boost pipe itself as its not very loud. Or do i just need to adjust the tension on the dump valve spring?? Its a baileys dv26

mine isnt very loud too. i think my bov is the same as yours. its the twin piston one without the crazy trumpet. its probably not that loud cos its only venting off about 7 psi whereas more powerfull cars with louder valves have to let more are out at a greater pressure- hence more noise.

I had loadsa problems with my BOV - Wasn't making any real noise - just either a strangled gasp or if taking out some washers, a slow pisssssssssshhhht! - has 2 crazy trumpets too! :D

Luckily, S13Eater brought me a lovely big 'T' piece to replace my crappy Halford's one (was smaller diameter) - It can now set car alarms off and cause rapid retreats of birds, cats, people etc... :p LOL! - Nice one Shaun!

If it gets too much, I can pop a blanking plate over one (unscrewable) trumpet, so can turn it into a fuzz-pleaser if need be, but it's the first BOV I've had where it actually works fine, and the diaphram etc haven't been mashed n' smashed by high boost pressures, so it gets my vote.... (Haven't got a piccie, but it's exactly the same as S13Eater's, only with one trumpet more than it reasonably needs! :p )
