When will you move on from the S12?

Just wondering how long people expect to keep their S12's for?

And what will encourage you to move on?

And what car do you aim to own next?

s13eater 30-10-2006 12:04

i'am keeping mine for another few months, then i will be moving on to my mk2 silvia:D the rot on my mk1 has encouraged me to move on.;)

30psi 30-10-2006 12:08

Didnt know it was rotten? Surely it can be sorted. Whats happening now with your engine, any takers?

s13eater 30-10-2006 12:12

back arch needs sortin, but my mk2 is solid, no takers for the engine, but maybe tomo200 will need it one day, i'am not in need of the cash, so i can store it,

30psi 30-10-2006 12:14

Yeah, that engine may be a struggle to sell.

There is a bloke on Z*** (EDIT - ZXOC) who has bought that DET S12 that was on ebay for about £3k, so it goes to show some will spend the wonga.

EDIT - XOC is on the swear filter. Weird, coz I thought the C and the F word would be the common words to be filtered:confused:

s13eater 30-10-2006 12:25

i only want £700 for the bare engine, which is a good deal as i payed £2700,£50 for a spare head, then £400 to have the head ported, £130 for the ajustable cam pulley.

30psi 30-10-2006 12:29

Fair price for someone who wants to succesfully go past 250bhp without issues

I have to admit that I can't see myself getting rid of mine until it collapses underneath me someday... :D

I'm in this relationship for the long-term... :p

Seriously though, if I got another car, it would HAVE to be something different (i.e. not a more common car like a Soob, Skyline, or SX) - and quite frankly, I haven't found anything where I like the overall package more than the Silvia...

...ie - The shape of the Silvia (esp. when tweaked to increase the already sleek and agressive stance - compared to most cars!) - and the stealth-kills factor, etc... (I mean, people love the scooby's, evo's, R32, R33, R34 etc... but I think that the actual shape and styling of 'em only looks better to us, because we know what's under the hood) - I will admit that the R34 / R35 (fake photo?) look nice n' aggressive in their own right, but I liked the Silvia even before I saw the magic words "1.8 Turbo"... :D

Yup - It'll probably be electrics if anything that cause me to move on (to another Silvia, no doubt!) - but then again, I have to see a certain Deity soon enough to resolve those issues... ;)

Excite 30-10-2006 17:31

i'll only sell mine if and when i can afford a R33 v-spec skyline...not soon i can tell ya...lol:D

it's only used for drifting at the events i organise so i dont drive it alot so it always feels new to drive:D

datdrift 30-10-2006 17:46

well mines had a season of abuse and is starting to fall apart:( but i'm sure i'll sort it out over the winter & unless i bend the chassis i don't think i'll get rid of it....and even then i'd probably just reshell....:)

if i do move on i would'nt want to get anything newer, i fancy a cadet in my 910, or a caet in a 310 or similar:cool: but rust free examples are thin on the ground so other options would be s13/r32, its got to be a nissan tho;)

JackieFan 30-10-2006 17:51

Not sure about that one! I currently share the car with a mate of mine (helps with the bills!) but I've also got a Honda CR-X that's my own and a Prelude that I do the work on (where possible) So I'm not gonna get bored anytime soon. It's nice to have the variation.... oh yeah, there's also an S14 Silvia waiting on a full rebuild!! (It's the guy's who I share the 12 with, I think he's looking at getting as many Silvia variations as he can!)

I'd like to be a sheep and own a Skyline R32/33 GT-R (binning the 4wd/4ws and any other driver aid I can take off and shoot!) but that's a fair few quid away yet! I'm also really tempted buy a Caterham/Westfield/DAX/Ginneta type thing or ultimately a ..... I could go on forever! But to sum up, the S12 isn't going to be sold in the foreseeable future so sorry guys you're stuck with me!! :trout

PukkaSilvia 30-10-2006 19:51

PukkaSilvia 31-10-2006 00:37

Good luck with it mate.Im sure it will all work out well in the end.

kennyboy 31-10-2006 10:56

Well i thought the time had come this year but yet again it passed with no problems. I think the thing for me if it keeps passing then i keep it but the day the testers hammer managers to break through then bye bye s12 as i spent nearly a year doind up my Mk1 when i had that, welding etc, i did enjoy the Mk1 but when i put the kit on the Mk2 i now wished i had'nt.
I reckon with these cars, its like an addiction, you know they are more than capable on the road/track but how far do you go.
With any hobby/interest you need to draw the line somewhere its different for everybody i reckon i would probably put the motor in something light or even make a chasis to go round the running gear so the engine will live on for me .
I did always enjoy my old datsuns when i had them, Car History was :-

Datsun Violet with sss running gear.
Datsun BluebirdSSS 1.8.
Datsun 260z with carb modsand different exhaust.
Datsun Laurel with the 260 z in it after it fell apart.
Nissan 300zx single turbo Z31( boost upgrade).Fast enough.
Golf Mk1, Lowered usual stuff.
Astra Mk2 1.8 GTE. Exhaust, filter Plugs and Re-map.
Nissan Silvia Turbo MK1 1985.
Spares Mk1 1984 Black over silver
Spares Mk2 1986 Bright red auto
Spare car which i gave to my friend to put onto the road,
1988 black mk 2 G reg.( should have let him have it , he wrecked it )
Spares Mk2 1986 Metallic blue, then sold to a friend now on the road.

Now the beast i have today, so i reckon i still done know what i would get after all of those.
:D :D :D

i actually bought my silvia through neccessity cos i was on a course in wales. the first weekend i came home my trusty old rover 623 broke big time and i only had 200 quid spare to get me some wheels. it was down to either a silvia or a 1l fiesta! best thing i ever bought though! if i had heard of them before then i can honestly say i would have bought one years ago instead of fannying around paying 5 grand for a supercharged corrado that wasn't much faster! i have had a very wide range of cars myself!
k reg escort 1.3
f reg golf gti 8 valve
h reg corrado g60
rover 600 2l
d reg mr2
e reg golf gti 8 valve
rover 623
my silvia mk2
also bought a mk1 for 60 quid but it turned out to be well knackered!

i will most probably own a silvia for a very long time now!:D

smoker 01-11-2006 14:00

I'll keep using mine until nu labour's nanny state bans old cars because the exhaust fumes are killing too many babies and trees. who voted for that idiot bliar what a chancer lol

henrix 01-11-2006 18:31

atm I will never sell it!;)

JamesS12 03-11-2006 14:27

I think at 20yrs old im quite young to like the old silvia, but my dads black 2litre s12 was the car i was taken home from the hospital in in 1986! I love all the nissans, they are real drivers cars, and believe it or not my silvia has been more reliable than any car ive owned, including all my VTEC's! I found this 1 in my mates garden, i bought it for £600 and got it back on the road just with a set of wiper blades!!! I plan to use it as a track car next year as for the price to fix it and the price of the car, i dont mind crashing or blowing it up!

One thing for sure, i'll never sell it!

smoker 04-11-2006 18:32

I think the cars that get some proper rustproofing will survive.. must be loads of cars out there that have little more than the factory underseal that are going to get scrapped when the sills and arches rot away.
I bought a wax injection gun it only takes a day to do properly
