up date

as my silvia is still not running i thought i would let you know how it is going.
so far i checked spark plugs and there is a spark to the engine and the cam belt has not gone so i rung a mobile mechanic told him the problem but did not sound promising as he did not know what a silvia was :ghey and then cost me £40 quid and did not get it running  and said he thinks my be the ecu has gone on it:confused: . can any one tell me what happens to it when it gose as i think it is fine as did diagnostic test and came up fine this is follow up to boost pipe

Excite 01-11-2006 19:47

is the distributor working, not jumped the belt or something silly so the timing is out, plugs the right way, could be compression,

when did it start mate....whilst driving or ????????

jakezx 01-11-2006 19:52

cambelt is fine as far as i can see and distirbutor is new started after boost pipe came off but put every thing back on and all looks fine ???????

pull a lead off and check there is a spark whilst turning it over. Then check if the plugs are getting fuel by turning it over for a while with your foot down and taking them out. Then check the codes on the ECU for faults!

I posted everything i could think of at the end of your other thread.

last time i went round we checked for a spark and it was strong, you can smell and hear the fuel coming thru and the ecu gave a code 44:(
i'll take a spare ecu or 2 round next time and see if that works?

Jake? Is someone coming down this weekend to pickup a Sunny ZX?

If so I'm coming with, and could look at the car for you? Could be one of those things that takes hours to solve, but a start is better than nothing.

jakezx 02-11-2006 20:14

yes there is if you could that would be great

I'd be wary of a mechanic saying the ecu is faulty - usually means they have run out of ideas in my limited experience.

I tried everything to get my engine to start only after taking out the plugs and borrowing a mates car and test ing each plug with a lead from the running engine did i find the problem..if they are soaked in fuel and fouled up they wont start even if you take out the fuel pump fuse and crank it all day.
Heat the plugs with a blowtorch or in an oven if they dont spark in the right place

will find out to moz if is ecu as mate letting me try 2 of his and will try the sparkys as well thanks

adzs12 04-11-2006 21:52

Il be suprised if it is the ecu but fingers crossed for ya mate;)

jakezx 06-11-2006 19:07

i have tryed two ecu's but still no luck. i have had the spark plugs out seems that there is no fuel coming through to them. so i think may be fuel pump but the ecu says every thing is fine:confused: think may have to ring a garge as need the car back on the road

datdrift 06-11-2006 20:59

i'm sure last time i was round i could smell/hear the fuel coming thru into the engine bay, so maybe its the injectors? ive got a few you could try....

Mate this is starting to ring bells, i had a very similar problem if not the same in the summer. Check all the wires going into the connection blocks down by your afm as i had to replace part of the ecu loom as i found one wire " white if im not mistaken" that had corroded and had broke off which was causing the injectors not to fire.

smoker 07-11-2006 01:48

surely if the injectors are working you would hear them 'clicking' and you can check the pump is working by disconnecting the hose at the fuel filter and letting it run out into a bucket with the ignition on. I think you have to crank the engine with the fuel pump fuse out to relieve the pressure..i didn't and got covered in petrol which is not nice

adzs12 07-11-2006 02:02

Sounds so much like what happened to mine i would be totally lost if its not what i suspect, check them wires and plugs mate;)

kennyboy 07-11-2006 08:13

Wire down near the afm

I agree with Adz on this one , i know i dont Say much lol !! but when i we were about to change my ecu and everything over there was a problem with the white or white and black wire being perished before we even started.

Worth a wiggle of the wire as your trying to start it , or strip the loom back for a good look at it .

Good luck with it .:)

dont worry and thanks for all the help i have had it fixed it was to do with the spark plugs 2 where not givin a strong enough spark and ht leads damaged but it is running now :D the mobile mech did not have a clue what he was doing o well runnig aweet again

adzs12 11-11-2006 19:06

None of them stupid mobile mechanics know what there doing half the time especially when it comes to these, i remember when pukka had one out and he was a complete burk, we fixed it in the end anyway so he kinda wasted some money there but we was baffled at the time and wasnt as experienced as we are now;)
