fookin windscreen....
got up this morning got in car to goto work and have a small crack at the center bottom of the screen, ill have to have a look and see what caused it, i feel it could have been a stone hit it on way home last night as it looks like its poss been hit with somin.
now, i have to check with my insurance company as i may have screen cover. but if not, what sort of price am i looking at for a screen fitted. and where is it from, are they country wide. Cheers. |
i got a new windscreen for mine coz i found out my insurance didnt cover it:mad: would have been nice if they offered, it cost me 180 notes fitted :furious
|
£180 you got a bargain then mate, where did you get yours from and who fitted it?
Autoglass charged me £350 supplied and fitted:furious :furious |
Get a glassbloke to fix it,i had one done for a tenna,a little bullit hole but over on the passenger side so i spose it depends were it is.
|
cheers for the reply guys.
its beyond repair, the crack is about 8 inchs long :( will check insurance later. |
got mine done by auto windscreens on the isle of man, they offered me 2 normal one for 180 and a blue tint one for something like 250, looks like i got a bargen if its goin to cost you 350, try and find someone who is scrapping a s12 and get it out of that and get them to fit it to your car??

SilverShield Windscreens have always been cheapest on screens i have needed

are they imposible to get out in one piece ? if not there is one at the bottom of my garden on a car if you wanna av a go at getting it off
|
really appriciate the offer shaun, but i dont think they are they easy to get out, and its a long way for me to come with no 100% chance of getting it out without cracking it.
but if all else fails then i may just have to do that. gonna give RAC a ring later as they bought out auto-winscreens, im an RAC member and may get some sort of discount (fingers crossed) Cheers for all the replys guys. |
ive got a spare one that i took out of my last car:) you just have to be careful and use a cheeswire type thing to burn/cut thru the old sealant slowly, i guess you could buy my spare off me if you wanted to come down and collect it? if your interested pm me a offer and i'll take a pic of it for you.
|
i have spoken to RAC, they dont stock one for the s12 anymore, but are going to see what sort of quote they can get and phone me on monday, they also said if i knew where one was there guys should be able to get it out in one bit.
so ill let you guys know on monday how it stands. really thanks for the replys. |

...I'm running around with an S13 (yep, S13!) windscreen on mine - it's the EXACT f*cking same one... - Cost me £120 all in, as it ain't *quite* so rare! :D (I'd never have believed it! :) ) That piece of advice saved me a sh*tload o' wonga when mine cracked - just hope you get the chance to read this before you get bent over matey... :p Hope that helps ;) (Though I see from your last post that at least you got a more reasonable quote afterwards!) Den. |
im so glad too, the RAC phoned me back with.............................. a discount coz im a memebr £280 + VAT
so they also got told to fcuk off and dont take the piss.... the s13 really a direct fit????? cant believe it?? sure it wasnt just a cock up and they gave you a s12 one, would be just my luck they would get the glass out and find my cars odd and dont fit :( i shall investigate, how on earth did you find that out, not really the sort of thing you just try on a warm sunday morning. lol |

There could be a minute chance that I'm mistaken, but I distinctly remember it being an S13 one that was fitted (also hence I suddenly got a choice of tinted upper section too!) Definitely worth a check before you lay out lotsa wonga mate... Lemme know how it pans out! :D |

I think you'll be surprised mate... :) |
if its poss to check your spare against s13 one would really appeciate it, like japster says just piece of mind, i would hate to get wet driving with no screen if it didnt fit :D
|
yeah a few of my mates have got s13's, but my mate who comes round in his all time has had a truck reverse into it, so its off the road at the moment, but someone else with a 13 might be coming round saturday, if they do i'll check it for you:)
|
thanks, i hope he does too :D
|
was there any update on this??
Cheers. |
sorry mate ive been reall busy, getting my car ready saturday, drifting sunday and now fixing it:trout as i said my mate who normally comes round in his 200 hasent got it on the road atm.....so i dunno when someone else is likely to:(
|
ok no worries, tis only a little crack atm, so no rush tbh, ill just bump this every now and then, if you havnt had the time to do it just ignore it :D.
thanks |
bump just if anyone had a chance to compare yet, i cant afford ittill after chrissy anyways, but the knowledge will deffo be useful to anyone with screen troubles.
|
still skint, but the need for this got pushed up a notch yesterday morning, as a was going round a corner, i watched the crack go from small in the center, all the way to my tax disc :(
i have been on the phone to a few windscreen places, still getting quotes for 350 quid for a nissan OEM one. still skint :( |
just been on clubs12 and someone on there also mentioned the s13 screen fitting the mk1 s12, looking on fast it does indeed give 2 different parts for the 2 models mk1 and mk2, whats the difference?? luck for me, mine is a mk1. but still getting high quotes :(
|
Adzs12s windscreen is also the s13 windscreen
|
bah, where have you been these past few weeks :p
den said he thought his was a s13 one, if adzs is too, then that should clear that up, isnt adzs one a mk2??? fast says they have different screens (s12 mk1 and 2), and so did the clubs12 guy, the s13 one is only meant to fit the mk1, wonder what the diff is  |

Im 99% sure its an s13 screen in mine, i could give you the part number from autoglass except theres about 4 different ones where they kept messing me around:ghey
|
if you have them to hand, i could phone them and ask them what the screens are they fit and go from there, autoglass was the ones that quoted me £313 for an s13 one, and £334 for the s12 one.
budget windscreens quoted me today £108 +vat but they didnt specify if it was an s12 or s13 as i asked for a price for both. ** edit, also do they fit a new outside rubber seal at the top of the screen, as mine isnt there anymore. |
i just had an email back from Budget windscreens
£108 +vat Quote:
http://www.budgetwindscreens.co.uk/ ** EDIT ** just thought, they never asked me if i was fully comp, thats prolly just the excess :( |
Top winscreed seal
Hello mate,
Being following this thread hoping i can help i guess what, for the top seal get a cavalier mk 3 rear window seal cup the longest part of it and with a bit of trimming it can can be bonded into the gap at the top nice ans snugg. Mine has one in for three years without leaking shrinking or anything. Useless info comes in handy sometimes, when i had mine fitted the guy in the windscreen place let me scrounge about in his garage for ages and he did for a tenner so good look for when you get it done.:) :) |
cheers for that m8, will certainly bear that in mind. great tip.
:D |
well they replied to say this was a full price and instock.
i shall have one very soon |
Nice one mate, let us know its the right one when they come to fit it:)
|
Umpkin you got there number ? Is it for an S12 or S13 screen ?
|
the number is 0800 282785
i spoke to the guy that emailed me, he said as far as the computer system says, its the right screen for the car, not an s13 one, its 108 +vat outright. i dont know if they are just a local firm or country wide, but even if they are local to me, its still worth the drive here to have it fitted. |
i heard one of the 39 bus fits.
