fj20 head flows its tits off

right, the fj20 head flows 129cfm as standared @ 10.25 lift, but the ports are that large that if to much is taken out, it would slow the air speed, so they have been reshaped and slightly ported on the inlets, now with bellmouths it has seen 143cfm @ 10.25 lift, it saw 150cfm @ 11.00mm lift, and just carries on flowing the more you lift it, but 10.25mm is the highest lift that they do, but this is before the 3 way seats have been done, so we are expecting around 150cfm anyway, the biggest job has been done on the exhaust ports, i've got about a cup full of ally that has come out of them,Andy @ AMT engines thinks by comparing the evo head which only flows 117cfm as stock, says that the evo head would never flow like the fj head, so the evo would have to run much higher boost to achieve what the fj engine could on lower boost, making the fj a lot more reliable motor, he said that a 1000BHP:eek: is not unrealistic if i wanted it, so watch this space;)

RichardK 25-11-2006 21:31

1000 BHP !!!!

You know you've got to... :D

s13eater 26-11-2006 13:09

i just got the flow bench chart, it flows 152.1cfm.:)

30psi 26-11-2006 14:12

If you look at the designs of the paths, leading from outside the head down to the valves, there is very little change of direction. The inlet side goes in at like 30 degs downward towards the valves, so there is very little change of direction of the airflow, especially as the valves are angled themselves. Its a much better head than the CA18DET and SR20DET.

sideways danny 26-11-2006 19:24

just been talking to Ben at Angelworks and he says the peugeot s16 head flows 150cfm at 10" as standard and can gain 15cfm with 5 minutes work. what pressure was it done at?

turbomike 26-11-2006 19:30

what cams are available shaun for this head?

not sure what pressure it was done at, but andy has done a peugeot 16 valve turbo conversion in a 205 and he said that the fj head is flowing slightly more air than the pug on his flow bench, but there are more higher lift cams availible for the pug.

Sharas 28-11-2006 15:18

Nice... And is this a fj20et or just fj20e head (well was before the mods)? And do you know is there any difference betwen those two?

s13eater 28-11-2006 15:25

its an fj20e head ported with bronze guides, i'am doing the turbo conversion, using 90mm wiseco pistons, crower steel rods, nitrided crank, modded skyline top mount stainless exhaust manifold, with twin external wastegates, huge plenum with ram pipes, t72 or t76 turbonetics bb turbo, tomei cams and verniers and tomei steel head gasket, plus sard 1000cc injectors.

PukkaSilvia 06-12-2006 20:07

I dont mind driving it at Rockingham again when its finished :D

No wonder your uprating every single bush etc. that poor silvy is going to be torn inside out. A full roll cage is definately on the cards :D

s13eater 06-12-2006 20:11

i think the chassis will need beefing up.

s13eater 06-12-2006 22:00

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...6122006008.jpgtial wastegate, just need another now.

Reckon youll have trouble seeing over the bonnet bulge itll be that big

s13eater 07-12-2006 14:55

you don't need to see in a straight line, i'll be closing my eyes and praying to god;)

duncan 07-12-2006 20:37

im lost for words shaun. christ! u da man:D i really have to get my finger out to keep up with everyone on here. roll on rockingham:cool:

turbomike 07-12-2006 21:03

wow that turbos massive, looks great polished like that, super looking ex manifold too:cool: ,did you finish that inlet manifold you were making and what are you getting next?

s13eater 07-12-2006 21:31

i have'nt finished the plenum yet mike, i've had a rod sent to crower, so they can make me a set of steel rods, they will be about 6 weeks, they will come back with my forged pistons, the engine will have to be dropped in the mk1, so that i can crack on with the plenum,i'll put the i/c in so that i can fabricate the pipe to the throttle body, then i'll have to do some saving for the cams,i don't know how long it will take but it will be worth it in the end.:)

turbomike 08-12-2006 09:06

cause it will be worth it mate, its shaping up real nicely already i reckon, ive got crower rods as well;)

PukkaSilvia 08-12-2006 18:57

Sounds like a good plan shaun. I bet a clutch is going to set you back about 600 squidilys though isnt it?

s13eater 08-12-2006 19:30

i don't want to think of that yet jon.

PukkaSilvia 08-12-2006 19:50

hahahaha. well you can run it in on a standard clutch cant you. Pay yourself a pound for every boring running in mile you have to do. Its going to take a bit of patience and time. jae 2008 should be a good year for it i recon

s13eater 17-12-2006 13:40

i've spoke to ben diggles with the 9.i sec gazzell, he says over there they test the cfm on there heads at 26 inch of water, mine was done at 10 inch of water, so at 26 inch mine would flow 262cfm.:)
