S14 4 pots

Yep, still using them. I've got 4 pots on standard discs with S14 std pads with Earls S12 hoses which bolt straight on. They make a big difference but now I've got some drilled/grooved S12 discs from Mtec (ebay) but I can't decide on the pads to use. :)

I've got a set of 4 pots. Need to pull my finger out, rebuilt and fit em.

I'd prefer to use larger discs though

alundra 05-01-2006 17:56

Does the R31 Front caliper need a "spacer" like s14 one?

I'd prefer a plug'n'play stuff without spacers

wacomuk 05-01-2006 19:45

northerner dose everything just bolt up or is there some modding ?

northerner 05-01-2006 21:29

The calipers bolt on fine but you either need to use the S14 bolts or have the S12 ones shortened. Then you need to make Two 4mm Pads spacers for either side due to the thinner S12 discs. I used some Ali which were cut and shaped be an exact copy of the back of the Pads. If you do this they will be held in place by the Two pins which hold the pads in place. Then I used some S12 Earls hoses which bolt on but you could use S12 Rubber hoses with some banjo bolts.

can s14 disks be used ? i know they would have to be re drilled
or could s13 disks be used ?

do you have any pics of the hoses ?

s13eater 05-01-2006 23:43

are you sure those are 4mm each, as they look only 2 mm each, just haw they look mate.:)

30psi 05-01-2006 23:49

They need to be 4mm.

The S12 discs are 22mm thick, the S14 ones 30mm thick

northerner 06-01-2006 13:50

Shaun the pic of the caliper hasn't got the pad spacers fitted but it has got the original shims fitted.

Dan 13-03-2006 10:38

Northener, just an idea but would you be able to make up some spacers for me if i buy some s14 calipers?

(sorry to drag up an old thread)

northerner 13-03-2006 10:57

Could do but there not much involved in doing it. I just got some 4mm ali cut locally. Use the Pad shim as a template and draw round it and then cut it and file it down, Job done. Suppose I could make a load of them but ATM its too cold and its the time factor. I might have some 4mm ali left I'll have a look and see !

Dan 13-03-2006 10:59

Cool, it wouldnt have to be done soon, just making sure before i think about buying these. How much did you pay for your 4 pots?

northerner 13-03-2006 22:13

I was lucky I paid £80 but had to collect from M25 South as the guy was braking a 98 S14 on www.sxoc.co.uk. I painted them Red and they look fab!

lee@ 13-03-2006 22:52

just a thought but how thick is the S14 pad without brake material on it?

northerner 14-03-2006 01:07

Yeh I thought of using an old one but could be bothered getting involved with hacking off all the old material and breathing it in whilst doing so !

S12KWA 14-03-2006 20:01

What size wheels do you have to use with S14 caliper's?
Will they clear the standard 15"?

northerner 14-03-2006 20:30

The do clear 15's as long as you use a Minimum of 10mm spacers on the fronts with longer studs !

old-and-rusty 15-08-2007 21:48

Hiya Northerner,
It looks like a superb set up:D .
Do you think there will be enough clearance for 16`s without the need for spacers (that`s what I`ve currently got on my s12).
Regards,
Ian.

northerner 15-08-2007 22:06

It will depend on the offset of your wheels. The 17's that were on my old car were +35

old-and-rusty 15-08-2007 22:34

Thanks for that :D .
I know when I got the wheels the offset was different from standard, so I will have to check that. They may have been +35, but I`m not too sure. :o
Regards,
Ian.

mr_turbo 16-09-2007 00:46

do the 4pots make that much difference witht the standard master cylinder etc?

northerner 16-09-2007 13:57

Yeh loads but I eventually used some drilled/grooved discs which also helped
