Silvia is back home

Hi Guys,

just thought I would let you know that I got the ole girl out of the garage and towed her round to my parents house today. No tax, no MOT and on a rope so good job my mate is a copper and followed us back to save any hassles from the ole bill.

Anyway, it really is time to put her back together! I know I keep saying it but I have no excuses with it sat on the drive now.

A T3 replacement turbo will be on its way as soon as Pukka receives my cheque. I need to put together the power steering pump, alternator and all the ancillaries. I need to rellocate the battery into the boot. I need to plumb in that new intercooler. I am eyeing up a new aluminium radiator for a civic off flee bay. Looks like it will fit nicely.

Also need to plumb in the greddy profec b boost controller. RICH!!! any chance you could help me with this for a free cossy throttle body?

The biggest job will be to fit a piper cam and fit the already purchased vernier pulley. 30psi if I get it up and running any chance I could bring it to you for these jobs in the summer? Would be so nice to see what i could get out of it with all this done on it.

I have already fitted the bigger throttle body and blanked off the various pipes coming off it. Was it a Ka24 one Shaun? I have the bigger 76mm piping on the inlet size plumbed in with a dv27 bailey dump valve.

Anyway....I looked at her out of the garage and thought that she was no where near as tatty as I thought she was. So that was it, she has got to be back on the road!

Right.....Anybody who would like to assist with this project feel free to contact me. Some of you know me and I am not the best when it comes to work under the bonnet and if I do all of this on my own I will be looking at 2 more years off the road.

cheers guys

Paul

The vernier will need adjusting again. To change the cam the engine might need to be jacked up off its mounts, the clearances would have to be done, and then time the pulley in.

It would take best part of a day to be realistic

gripo 10-12-2006 13:13

Any chance of doing this mate some time next year? Could do the cam one day and leave the pulley for another day? Obviously I would make it your worth while.... :)

PukkaSilvia 10-12-2006 15:23

Sounds good. Where abouts in the midlands are you?

Claire has a civic and to be honest those radiators are very small. Your probably best going for the one Adzs12 is saving up for.Pm him.

Any chance of some pictures of the old girl? Ive only ever seen it in your signature

Has every piper regrind cam youve dialled in been adjusted be the same amount on the pulley Martin?

gripo 10-12-2006 16:35

Im in Redditch in Worcestershire.

Sure no problem i will take some piccies tomorrow and post them. The intercooler fills the bay. I was thinking of getting this radiator:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=250058364460

will that be good enough?

Right!!....off to pick up the rest of my bits. The ex is on the warpath tonight and things are getting thrown!

PukkaSilvia 10-12-2006 16:45

With a powerfull electric fan like a kenlowe or pacet,an expansion tank(the std s12 one would be suitable) and a 300zx thermostat you would be fine imo,

30psi 10-12-2006 18:07

APEX have an aftermartet S13 rad on a group buy going pretty cheap I think.

The adjustment on the pulley will never be the same due to engineering tolerances.

I estimate it will take at least 5 hours to remove rockers, lift engine, remove cam, wack new cam and seal in, chase rocker threads, install rockers, do a cold clearance setup, dial cam in, then do a hot clearance setup.

PukkaSilvia 10-12-2006 18:14

seems like a good time estimate.

i was just wondering if there regrinds were consistant. whats the range been?

Kimble Bean still neads his doing on his engine hes just bought off shaun too

30psi 10-12-2006 18:24

Yeah and Adam as well.

Ive never measured differences, I just get them dialed in but never looked at differences, but there always will be, when you consider deck height, head gasket thicknesses, head skimming etc. I doubt any tolerances from Piper would hardly be measurable

adzs12 10-12-2006 18:33

Mine wont need dialing in again would it:confused:

gripo 10-12-2006 18:36

The problem i have is that the intercooler i am fitting is 100mmx300mmx600mm! So the radiator will need to be a size to fit behind that and not snag on the engine ancillaries. I need one that isnt to fat width ways because of the intercooler piping. Also im not keen on havingone sit flush with the intercooler because of heat soak.

Sounds like people are after your skills martin! I will wait my turn if you want to do it that is! I am looking forward to putting it all together and seeing what it can do.

So no one likes that radiator I am looking at then?

gripo 10-12-2006 18:38

Kimble bean????? lol!!!!!

We used to call him the Kidderminster Kid!!! thats me and silviagod that is!!

adzs12 10-12-2006 18:38

That radiator is nice and a good price too but its too small imo, Do you know the measurements width and heaight?

Well no, it prob will be very close but a perfectionist would adjust it.

This is the ORIGINAL red silvia with silvia engineering spoiler and splitter. As you can see the bodywork isn't bad. The engine bay could be soooo good if i could find time to do it. Done a bit since my last post. Any comments/advice most welcome!

Gripo you using omex 500? Do you have a copy of the software?

s13eater 11-12-2006 17:07

you'd be better off investing in a copy from omex adzs, you will get the huge info manual with it, its only about £30 and you get the coms lead with it.

gripo 11-12-2006 17:13

yes its an omex 500. I dont have the software sorry.

gripo 14-12-2006 21:45

I went to do a bit of putting back together tonight. Unfortunately I have 4 boxes of nuts and bolts and don't know where to start! Will give it a real good go after xmas I suppose now.
