build my silvia!
Ok guys I have said this before. My silvia is in bits on my drive. I have no time at present to devote to it and put it back together. I am trying to get back in the Great Britain Athletics team and this is taking up time before work down the gym and after work down the track. When I bend over the engine my back aches terrible due to an old slipped disc injury. So my proposal is:
Would anyone be interested in taking it away and putting it back together? I have asked a couple of you guys and had some interest but nothing solid yet. I would love to see it in one piece and see what it can do. I would possibly be at peace with my silvia and maybe put her on classic insurance or sell her if the price was right. Things that need doing: T3 turbo and manifold putting back on (t3 coming this week) steering rack changed and pump putting back on.(no spare rack yet) radiator putting in (aluminium one) alternator and other small ancillaries putting on battery relocating to the boot large intercooler in place and partially plumbed in greddy profec b spec boost controller fitting 440cc injectors to fit vernier pulley to be fitted (have one) piper cam fitted (dont have one yet) probably a replacement clutch would need fitting if all this is in place. Omex all in place. Might be one or two other bits but nothing else major. Obviously I would consider paying the interested person in doing this. So come on guys it would be nice to see another half descent silvia back in the fold. It breaks my heart to see her out in the cold wet going to waste.... |
To be honest mate i think the majority of us are too busy working on our own s12`s let alone taking time out to fix yours.
Just do it when ya can and eventually you will get there, anything you get stuck on where all here to help out:) |
why don't consider paying a garage to do it paul, get them to do it, then say i'am not paying you, as i was only considering paying, then drive the car off,:D ;)
I'm tempted. got some workshop space now but got a few things to get out the way first. what you doing about mapping?
I would start putting it back together but my turbo hasn't arrived yet!

oh good stuff. If I get it tomorrow I may even fit it. Is it worth me grinding out the standard exhaust manifold a bit?
Cheers Adz. (im not online during the day) Yup its posted, Should arrive very soon. :)
Dont let the postman hold you up.The turbo will be the last thing to do Steering rack, clutch, injectors,Battery relocation wiring, fitment of piper cam etc means you really need to take the engine out. |
engine out!!! Yep you are right however my parents garage is full of junk from my old house so I have no where to put it in the dry.
It would be ideal to take the engine out and the inspiration i have had from you all, I would love to do it. What a shame i can't store the bugger while i work on it. Right tomorrow or Sunday I will put the alternator, power steering pump on and have a look at grinding out that standard manifold not that it will make much difference but i suppose every little helps (according to tesco!) :D |
No just lift the engine off of its mounts (4 bolts) to remove cam
you may as well take it completely out and do the clutch etc too, Why struggle with all the other jobs.
I would only change the clutch if it needed doing.
But either way, there is alot to do there :( |
can you not move the junk so you can get your engine in there and work on it,you dont really need that much space, and its much easier to do all that stuff you gotta do,also you can give the engine bay/engine a real good clean too so its all mint, cant see why you wanna bother grinding that manifold out mate cos you know your gonna get a tubular one on there at some point;)
yes I know i will eventually get a tubular jobby. It might be an option to shift a bit of stuff If my suster is kind enough to take some into her garage for me.
T3 has arrived!!! Im stuck at work until 6 so can't go and have a look until then. Have the bug, just need a hand taking the engine out. :)
Mate ive removed and fitted my engine twice on my own in the rain and once in the snow, get ya hands dirty mate and treat it like a puzzle, easy;)
