S12 Super Silhouette
 

Hey guys! New here, but this seems to be the place to go to for what I need. I have recently gotten an ex-road racing S12 for free (!!) from the race shop by my house in the USA. Knowing many people who fabricate a variety of things, I have decided to make a replica vintage racer of the 1983 S12 Super Silhouette raced in Japan in the early 80's. However I can only find a few pictures online, and even fewer videos. I have very limited information regarding the specifics of this car, and was wondering if anyone had any information about it. Hey thats a top site never knew it existed!

Brilliant! I think the only things I am missing now are suspension things (springs, dampers, spring rates, etc). I can work out the spring rates on my own, and make my own sway bars, but I would like to know what dampers they used, etc. I had a look on Impul's website, but couldn't find too much except some sexy photos. Brake sizes would be nice too, but again I can calculate that on my own if needed. Thanks for your help guys! More photos and articles to come I hope!

You will struggle to replicate that car's underpinnings, as it was completely custom. There are pics on the net of its brakes and suspension, and it don't resemble anything to do with an S12.

Its called the Silhouette because it just resembles the S12 model, but other than that has very little in common.

There's a video of it on youtube racing against an R30.

Dunno my mate showed me it round his house. Was like a TV program where the main focus was the skyline, talking about the engine and stuff (in jap) and the S12 was following the R30 round the track.

apparentley theres about 30mins footage of the impul silvia on an option dvd and other silhouette racers, but i don't know which one, its on driftworx, so if anyone can enlighten me i'd be gratefull.

Yea those videos are great. I figured most of the underpinnings arent stock, but I'll make it work somehow. I'm doing my final year project at Uni on suspension design, and my friend is doing the brakes. I have access to a bunch of machine shops too so I will hopefully manage to work something out. The name of the Option video is on the AUS12 website, so I'll get the name and number later today. One of the guys had a bunch of screen shots too. Thanks guys!
