South Yorkshire Springs CoilSpring Info

Bought a pair of AVO springs off S13eater ( thankyou very much)
And set about finding rears to match.

first stop was AVO for a set of rears. they were very very ill mannered about the whole thing said they only did 4 spring kits, would'nt give rates and eventually said could do just rears and would be 6 wks to order, when they had a kit ready to go off the shelf.

Rang South Yorkshire Springs (01709 375375) and talked to Tony, he was very accomodating and said they had the specs for -30mm and -40mm rears rated at 250lb for £50+vat

Now I wondered if anyone could tell me which would be the best match for my front AVO's which are -35mm, I have a 1988 MK2.

umpkin 23-03-2007 22:01

personally i would want more than 250lbs, mine are 300lbs atm, and they arnt enough, i spend to much time seeing blue sky under throttle.

PukkaSilvia 23-03-2007 22:45

Go for -40mm. Can he make them Harder. If they do i may go for a new pair for the rear. As id like to have harder springs on the back and coilovers on the front

30psi 23-03-2007 23:19

Althought they are 300lb springs you arent seeing 300lbs at the hub, due to leverage because the spring is inset more on the swing arm.

northerner 24-03-2007 08:24

I dealt with several times and the service and product are very good. I sent him the specs on the OE springs for the MKI/II so you can just say eg 30% uprated -30mm etc.

Magoo 27-03-2007 20:37

Ordered my springs today -40mm and 350lb

rob turbo 27-03-2007 22:54

are these direct fitment springs... 300lbs... front + rear..??

i'll have some.. do they fit kyb shockers... ???

how much, + have you contact details please..

cheers

northerner 27-03-2007 23:59

When I got them they were 25 each spring as long as they are made on a Run of other springs. Otherwise he won't light the fire for just one set. They will fit as standard ones do but you have to be careful when they get over
-25mm. They will then only be held in place on the fronts by the weight of the car and not the strut.

s13eater 28-03-2007 22:31

i could do with changing either the springs or shocks on the back, i've noticed that its been jumping a bit over pot holes, when you press each side on the rear, the left side feels softer, i'am using kyb's and avo springs, they are only a year old, something has gone tits up:mad: .

northerner 28-03-2007 23:29

it was probably down to lumping that Fecking big tubby around in your boot shaun!

Magoo 29-03-2007 20:15

Contact number is 01709 375375 talk to Tony he's the main man.

Just ordered the rears -40mm and 350lb and he was onto it straight away

PukkaSilvia 29-03-2007 21:08

How much were they?

Look forward to hearing how hard they are at 350lb.

s13eater 29-03-2007 21:35

thats about double the std springs.

Conkers 01-04-2007 09:27

We have cut a couple of turns out fo the standard springs, fitted bilstien dampers from an M3 that were knocking around and run about 4" of bump stops on the dampers. She actually feels nice to drive... but we will probably go harder for drifting....
Remember that when you cut a spring the rate increases...

It's cheaper than buying new springs... and as a rule of thumb removing a coil lowers the car and stiffens it just about right for road use...

Conkers.

ps.. that said, I think we will be buying adjustable coil-overs for the rear to allow us to change the set-up for track use and drifting..

Magoo 01-04-2007 22:34

£50+vat, picking mine up when they are ready so he is losing the vat

Magoo 02-04-2007 22:11

Have a rear shock leaking does anyone know where to get some and how much they are? KYB's etc

PukkaSilvia 01-05-2007 00:03

Any further info on these magoo?

Magoo 01-05-2007 00:08

Rang him a cuople of week ago still heard nothing!!!!!!!!!!!
he was going on hol so may account for the non urgency which isn't good for me.

PukkaSilvia 01-05-2007 00:22

OK. i think i may get a full set as mine are getting old. I would just like to see what his -40 looks like as i want my car to be low.

PukkaSilvia 17-06-2007 23:08

Bumpety bump Magoo

Magoo 18-06-2007 00:19

Howdy Doodi, Still no springs

Rang South Yorks Springs on Fri, Tony told me he had 2 guys leave which has left him in the shit.

No idea when I'm going to get the springs doesnt sound promising.

I'm getting fed up and thinking about just ordering a set from AVO

s12nelly16v 18-06-2007 08:35

according to the s12 manual, there dos'nt seem to be any difference.

My order for a set of -35mm springs is going thru at the mo.... well the have taken the money for them he say expect them around a months time!?!

Magoo 19-06-2007 09:14

I've been waiting well over a month now, probably two and still no joy

Magoo 23-06-2007 21:20

Does anyone know the exact spec size and measurements of the rear spring to get some uprated ones made.

Really want to get these made and on for JAE

s13eater 29-06-2007 22:22

i've orderd some new rear springs 2day, i've had 40mm lower and 250lbs, std are 177.6lbs, i've got 350lbs on the front and i think they are to hard for the road, std fronts are around 165lbs.mine will be ready a week on monday, valley springs @ chesterfield £50 for cash.

umpkin 30-06-2007 14:32

i may order some 300lbs for the front then, if my 350's feel that hard maybe 275's maybe a tad soft, but avo ones are still nowhere near as hard as 300's, where did you get your 300's from ? and how long have you had them ? and are your dampers ok ?

umpkin 30-06-2007 21:24

i got mine from leda suspension in braintree essex, i have had them for bout 7 years, and my front shockers were change for the MOT bout 8 years ago.

tbh its a wierd feeling, when i corner fast or take a roundabout fast it sort of ducks and dives round it, feeling very loose. like being on a boat tbh, but not actually rolling.

does anyone know of any other front inserts that would fit in the s12 strut??

PukkaSilvia 30-06-2007 21:47

just buy some kyb front shocks.. your dampers are nackered. Mine are also nackered on the front. It feels all floaty:p

I will be getting kybs and welding on threaded tubes for coilovers like Silvia Engineering Did and many others since:)

umpkin 30-06-2007 21:51

i didnt think KYB's were available for the s12 anymore???

PukkaSilvia 30-06-2007 21:53

Where did you hear that?

Any motor factors can supply patent ones btw. Kybs are the preferance though

umpkin 30-06-2007 21:58

i shall investigate, im sure i heard it on here, may have miss heard. cheers for the heads up on that.

PukkaSilvia 30-06-2007 21:59

you may be rite. Hopefully your not:p

s13eater 30-06-2007 22:06

i'am sure they are the same as the 280zx inserts.

30psi 01-07-2007 02:19

Sounds like some slightly knackered bushes or ball joints as well as tired shocks.

I have some spare front legs that you could try though Umpkin.
