Removal of the gearbox whilst on your back is a pig but worth doing to save the garage fitting costs. The main problem I found was trying to get the input shaft to go into the clutch plate. A hint I've found was to loose the Two bolts on the engine mounts on either side. BEWARE Not to undo the actual mount ones as its filled with Oil and it will seep out and they will be knackered. Just the ones that will enable the engine to be tilted at the from ie the back downwards which an assistant can do while you get the input shaft in by wriggling the box about

very easy, just remember to disconnect the exhaust so the engine can rock backwards and use a decent alignment tool on the clutch

very very easy clutch todo mate undo prop n exxhuast then the starter then the 4 bolts holding th ebox on do top first as can be fiiderly! then once they off hold the box up with a stand then undo gearox mount n pull off very simple the release bearion does need preshin on thou dont 4get to take off slave cylinder also

I found that laying under the car with my head at the engine and my feet pointing towards the diff you could use your knees and hands to line up the gearbox accurately (hands on the bell housing and knees on the gearbox), I didn't even have remove the exhaust or loosen engine mounts (although our ones could be a bit worn now I guess). You have to twist the gearbox towards the drivers side to clear the bulkhead when you first offer it up.

mr_turbo 06-07-2007 00:19

oh i know that im a mechanic myself its jst alreadi done 900miles on it lol

sideways danny 06-07-2007 00:29

what brand of clutch did you buy and did you clean up the flywheel first?

mr_turbo 06-07-2007 00:31

yer course i did the flywheel wernt in best of shape but was gd enuff to leave in widout skimming! its only a blueprint clutch but was told it wud take 200bhp fine

JackieFan 06-07-2007 07:45

Did you grease the release bearing or end of the gearbox input shaft? if so, how much? It would only take a small amount of copper slip/grease to cause you problems.

P.S. How the hell have you done 900 miles on it already! ;)

Here's a question for someone, if the clutch was "bedded in" hard would it glaze up like pads do?

mr_turbo 06-07-2007 09:11

lol i do a fuk load of driving lol its a everyday car lol nar didnt gease it up for that reason

PukkaSilvia 06-07-2007 09:35

check your clutch slave cylinder freeplay again

Hopefully its not that its a shit clutch, fingers crossed

JackieFan 06-07-2007 09:36

Was it defo a S13 clutch? The one we brought off Pukka was used and it still only took a good 50-80 miles to bed in properly but now it's spot on!

PukkaSilvia 06-07-2007 09:55
