Flame me here........

Il be putting a parts list up in a bit and adding to it over the next few weeks. Im going to be breaking my s12 up for bits and getting a corrolla ae86 and a standard low miliage s12 instead.

:)

Looking at rpettafor and shauns cars this weekend and seeing a few corrolla's i think id like to invest in a corrolla as a project and have a mint s12 as a sort of concourse car rather than a tuning project. So i wont be dissappearing. Il still maintain the club and be at jae etc with all the stuff. I dont really want to hang around with any other mongs.

JackieFan 23-07-2007 11:19

TRAITOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PukkaSilvia 23-07-2007 11:22

lmao you bastid

JackieFan 23-07-2007 11:28

Yup, probably best change the signature too ;)

PukkaSilvia 23-07-2007 11:40

lol theres a better update

JackieFan 23-07-2007 11:41

Haha, trenchfoot! Classic! :D

30psi 23-07-2007 13:38

I think you're best to go out in an AE86 before comitting to owning one.

I went out in one, and whilst being dynamically very good, you had to rev the knockers off of it just to get something out of it. Very drift biased attitude from people about them as well. You will be called a gayboy unless you drift every corner you come across. Just something I've noticed lol

They are probably very good for grip though. However have you considered for the same type of money (£4k?) something like a 4 pot LHD M3?

JackieFan 23-07-2007 13:51

All Hondas are like that too though, They are designed to be thrashed, it's how they make their power :D ..... plus they sound awesome

Wocketfast 23-07-2007 13:58

Seriously though its alot of money for not alot of car, bit like buying the kings new clothes, all hype based on an average cartoon if you ask me.

PukkaSilvia 23-07-2007 14:04

i think id vtec it with an h20 engine martin. Like what was in my prelude.
Its just my work rubbing off on me. Do you by any chance know what weights you can get them down too .

Ive done so much to the s12 that im not happy that its not perfect. I will look out for a mk2 f or g plate in as mint as poss condition. they do turn up and there cheap. Whereas i have the feeling the corrollas are going to cntinue to climb in value over the next few years

30psi 23-07-2007 14:05

Yeah I agree with Wocketfast. They are overpriced due to the drifting heritage, but realistically you don't get a lot for your money. They aren't like the Honda vtec's, which surge at their rpm limit, you just have to try very hard with the 4Age engine.

I'd prefer a Mk1 Escort with a tuned Pinto...

Very light, circa 1,000kg fully stripped. The 4age engine is supposed to be quite light as its fairly small as well.

Its got a 5 link solid axle at the rear, which despite being a bit old hat for the time, is supposed to be quite good for drifting.

I would however try to get some opinions of them when used as a grip car though. When I went out in one it was just drifted so can't comment too much on what it was like on a chase.

PukkaSilvia 23-07-2007 14:09

you dont get alot with the cars at my work. Try spending 45k on a 150hp stipped out alfa gta or 38k for a wooden marcos with a 1800 amazon engine with 170hp. when im surrounded with cars like that 4k for a corrola seems reasonable

30psi 23-07-2007 14:13

Best to go out in one to see what you think. Standard they're only about 125bhp so you might not be too amazed. Sid is getting a TE71 levin quite cheap and will be using a later engine with more power, he keeps breaking the volvos

PukkaSilvia 23-07-2007 14:15

theres volvos are everywhere now. Theres 3 every tuesday at crawley cruise ffs.:trout
Sid was one of the first wasnt he?

im going to go to dtn trading and speak to them and see what there current and future stock is.

Its a shame about the whole drifting thing because they have quite a rich Motorsport heratiage too, people just tend to over look it. I don't really understand what you mean about trying hard? Ok you need to rev them but that doesn't seem like a hard thing to do, much like keeping a Honda in the Vtec range if you will

30psi 23-07-2007 14:21

Who are dtn?

Yeah he was one of the first. Sids one has about 150bhp and its too much power for the transaxle, the casting of the gearbox literally breaks in 2 at the nose.

there not far from me and have 2 in stock at the moment and import them from japan.

30psi 23-07-2007 14:39

What they asking for them?

PukkaSilvia 23-07-2007 14:53

around 4k. Ive called them up and the guy who does the corrollas is out but back in an hour. Im not majorly rushed so if i have to trawl the japanese auctions with them i will to get the right one.

I hope a corrolla of similar age live up to your high expectations [;)] judging from the way you vanished off down a strip of road on the drive home I'd say yours was pretty darn near perfect really for a 20 year old car.

no denying the corrolla do make a lovery noice though at full chat

kenneth 23-07-2007 16:30

hi just read this ,i had a 85 ae86 for ten years great car 85 model is best different gearing compared to 86 model mine was capable of 147mph with just a full janspeed and k+n filter and seven inch revoulations .now have fj silvia under rebuild.

doski 23-07-2007 20:17

sad to hear your braking the car up.... would you not prefer to keep your silvia as it is and use that as well as have the ae86??? I have never seen your car but from what i have seen of it in pics i would say its an awesome looking example of a s12

Don't do that, i want your wheels and engine! As for the weight of AE86, 950kg for the coupe, think the hatch about 20kg more, thats fully loaded with the interior. With a serious diet i think 700kgs would easily be achievable. As for power there are lots of options, a common engine conversions is 2.0 3S-GE from a MR2 non turbo or lexus/altezza IS200. Personally i would leave the 4AGE. With the right knowledge and money you can make them rev to that magic 10,000rpm:D with about 200bhp+ in extreme examples i've see 220bhp. So stripped out and tuned to the extreme thats a power to weight ratio of 285bhp per tonne and a 06 BMW M3 is about 220 bhp per tonne. I think you should get one, if you don't like it just put it in a garage for a 6 months and it will of doubled in value;)

30psi 23-07-2007 22:23

Better off supercharging it and getting some torque :D

This is an old AE86 N2 cup car. Speaks for its self:eek: !

30psi 23-07-2007 22:41

Yeah but he wants to buy one with just £4k? Tuning them isn't cheap.

Really easy to do, the 4AGZE is a supercharged version of the for 4AGE. which can be found in Supercharged mk1 MR2s, Bolts straight in;) I'd stick with NA tho

PukkaSilvia 24-07-2007 18:49

nice little youtube vids there. the ones on youporn are good too

Sorted my engine. It had slipped 2 teeth on the cambelt. I will have to look into why this has happened. Possibly something has got down inside the lower belt cover. I will still pull it apart for a nose and to take pics of all the build for anyone who wants it,but this will be the last thing i do,i have claires civic to strip down aswell. At least i get to enjoy it a bit more for the next 2 weeks before it comes apart now

On the upside ive found a g plate mk2 manual with 35k on the clock so that will be my concourse car. I will break the black one up within the next two weeks so anyone who wants anything start saving.

claire wants me to get the trueno rather than the levin, What one do you lot prefere?

JackieFan 24-07-2007 19:01

Levin!

slimreaper 24-07-2007 19:08

I'd go for a levin coupe if it was my choice;) What you thinking hatchback or coupe?

Why is your car on youporn? ;)

PukkaSilvia 24-07-2007 19:24

the booted ones are Jenk Aaron:illboy :illboy

duncan 24-07-2007 20:41

nnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooo!!!!!
no no no no no no!!!!!!!!!
did i mention i'm against this!:furious
seriously though, i know you have had problems with the s12 but you will have a lot more with an ae86.
they have to be revved within an inch of their lives to go anywhere and proper tuning parts are not cheap. the best set up for na seems to be the 4age 20valve engine from the imported fwd levin and corolla gt. these have individual throttle bodies as standard. they have a lot of torque.
i'm not trying to force my opinion onto any one but i would certainly agree with martin about driving one before you make your mind up. if you do go for one i would recomend a trueno coupe for drift look or levin for the n2 series look. there's a guy up the north of ireland that makes all the jap body kits for them including the wide n2 arch kit. basically its ae86 heaven over here so if you do buy one and are looking for any parts get in touch with me and i'll hook you up

duncan 24-07-2007 20:55

would you sell the whole car complete? you have done far to much work to scrap it. with the attention it got at the weekend it MUST not happen. what will it take for me to change your mind on this point alone?
does anyone else agree with me on this?

PukkaSilvia 24-07-2007 21:30

i can get more £ for it in parts Duncan. Over 3k.

Theres no way im getting a a booted one either. Im pretty good with carbs these days so i will probably put it on some 45s with slightly larger cams and a decent 2 1/4 inch exhaust.

I think i will stay with the 4age due to long term value and heritage now but I have race bucket seats, race tanks, fire extinguisher systems,harnesses,..... you name it all coming out my ears(not literally). So that and with fibreglass panels ie bonnet, hatch etc it should make it extremely quick.
my black s12 was a great project but its not the kind of car im into anymore due to my work mostly. It is too far gone modified to take it back and start it again in a new genre, ive been thinking of doing this for a while but wanted to do jae with it finished. Also I dont see spending say 1k on a respray on a corrolla as false economy as i do with the silvia
This is also why i will keep my next s12 completely standard but in showroom condition.I know the one im getting next wont need a respray for a start. Its been garaged all its life.:)

duncan 24-07-2007 21:36

fair enough mate. you're the man to talk to about getting stuff then:D

PukkaSilvia 24-07-2007 21:40

lol well. Shauns been on that wagon for a while.....

Im going to go and see some next week at dtn most probably. I would go this weekend but im at silverstone
