Smallest wheels?
This may seem strange, but I'd like to know if you lot know what the smallest wheels are that will fit over the Silvias brakes?
I'd like fat-ass 13s - possible? |
Some 14's can just about fit over the rear brakes which are larger than the front. Depends on the wheels really.
|
Oh... and steel wheels?
S12s ever come on then? Micra/Primera wheels fit? Thanks people! |
Micra or Sunny wheels are the wrong PCD
|
bluebird steel wheels might fit, may need spacers to corect offset
|
Erm......
They'll be going off for banding, so offset isn't really an issue :D |
Banding
Let me know if you get this done, always wanted to get this done.:) :)
|
Well, the plan is 10"x14" steels with hyper stretched tyres.
As I typed that I was thinking of 185/60 14 tyres... but that might be toooo big a stretch (I'm good... dunno about that good...). Actually, 8-9" might be more realistic.... covered with trailer arches similar to (I believe) PukkaSilvias. And before people start quoting 'banded steels are illegal', they're actually not. And if you disbelieve me and can prove it, feel free to post the information (including reliable source) here - if they do prove to be illegal, I'd like to know. Not that it's relevant in this case, it's not a road car, I'd just like to be put right. Anyway, I've found a place ready to do the banding for £30 a rim - don't know about postage yet, and apparently if I supply wheels that turn out in the welding process to be buckled/ rusty whatever they will not be able to do them and won't be able to offer a refund. I've also emailed wide-wheels.co.uk for prices, and await the response with baited breath..... I'll keep you updated on my progress. |
How do tyre sizes work? For a 10J rim (254mm) what size tyre would actually fit? Is it as simple as one that is exactly 254mm or near as doesn't matter, or is there another way of working it out using the aspect ratio?
If you get this done anytime soon then I'd be really interested in how much the rim weighs. Also how strong would it be? If it helps then S12's are the same PCD as MGB's and some Triumph's, Stags being one (I think the others are the TR's and 2000's), you can get some proper retroness for next to no money if you're willing to hunt about ;) |
Right.
Got this from.......... somewhere. Rim width......Minimum tyre width......Ideal width..........Maximum width 5 .0 inches.....155 mm................165 or 175 mm..........185 mm 5.5 inches......165 mm................175 or 185 mm..........195 mm 6.0 inches......175 mm................185 or 195 mm..........205 mm 6.5 inches......185 mm................195 or 205 mm..........215 mm 7.0 inches......195 mm................205 or 215 mm..........225 mm 7.5 inches......205 mm................215 or 225 mm..........235 mm 8.0 inches......215 mm................225 or 235 mm..........245 mm 8.5 inches......225 mm................235 or 245 mm..........255 mm 9,0 inches......235 mm................245 or 255 mm..........265 mm 9.5 inches......245 mm................255 or 265 mm..........275 mm 10.0 inches......255 mm................265 or 275 mm..........285 mm 10.5 inches......265 mm................275 or 285 mm..........295 mm 11.0 inches......275 mm................285 or 295 mm..........305 mm 11.5 inches......285 mm................295 or 305 mm..........315 mm 12.0 inches......295 mm................305 or 315 mm..........325 mm 12.5 inches......305 mm................315 or 325 mm..........335 mm Based on this, my 6x13s on my Orion needed at least 175s, preferably 185s or 195s, all the way to 205s. Thats a 30mm diffence between minimum and maximum. So I put on 155/70 r13s with a bit of stretch, and it looked cooool (with plenty of stretch to go). For those unfamiliar with tyre stretch, it looks kinda like this..... http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...ftwest/glf.jpg (not the best pic, but meh, what can you do? If I stumble across a better example I'll post it). According to the rules for 9" wheels, I need a minimum of 235. 235 wide 14s? Not gonna happen. Buuut.... with a bit of tyre-fitter-Fu, 185/60 14s stretched by 50mm will fit. And in the world according to Drew, will look the danglies (and give more arch clearance due to the decreased sidewall height and stretched sidewall profile). That was hard work..... |
i had 205/50/15s on 8j alloys on my s12,
;) there stretched but i know that i could fit 195s on there. main thing is choosing the sidewall height. With 195s the height would have to be at least 55 on a 15 inch rim Also i did not stretch them any further than what i was using as the camber on the back of the s12(especially lowered ones) ment that the iner edge would wear extremely fast and explode. If your going to do the mad stretched look you should definately do rear camber correction before you drive it |
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww... but I love the cambered look :( :(
Good point though. Bear in mind this is a drift only car... But going through tyres that fast may be counter productive. |
Don't know if this has been posted before, or even if the info is any good but it's worth a mention.
http://www.alloywheelsinternational....mentguide.html If you want to go for small wheels then apparently the Daewoo Matiz has a PCD of 4 x 114.3 and an ET of 35 :wack |
