Silvia roadholding problem
Hello, After getting my engine running better i'm now looking at improving the suspension. My car seems very twitchy on the back end when pulling out to overtake... feels like the change of road camber unsettles the back end making the rear wheels hop about which don't inspire much confidence.
I was thinking of fitting some uprated rear shocks and changing the anti-roll bar bushes but would appreciate some thoughts or any other recomendations before laying out my hard earned. |
sounds like your rear shockers need replacing
KYB do replacement Gas rear shocks. you can up-rate the fronts by replacing the fluid with a higher viscosity fluid (EG transmission fluid) |
You possibly may need to replace your rear subframe bushes
|
Thanks for the suggestions :) . I think I will try replacing the shocks first as I replaced the subframe bushes a few years ago for the mot.
Looking on the kyb website they only seem to list rear shocks for the S13 so do these also fit S12 ?. How much ATF fluid do i need to put in the front shock tubes ? cheers |
i got my shocks from DP motor-sport in warington.
with the fronts you need to measure how much fluid comes out and replace the the same amount, (as long as your shocks haven't been leaking) |
The service manual goes into the exact amount of fluid required.

I`ve just checked my s12 manual for you.
It says 9.9 imperial fluid ounces, hope that helps. :D Regards, Ian. |
Lol I'd guess 9.9 fluid ounces being about 281cc
|
About half a pint (0.495) mmm beer :D
|
Thanks for the translations :p ...LOL...
I didn`t have a clue what a fluid ounce was ;) . Regards, Ian. |
Thanks all especially old and rusty for looking up the information in the s12 bible for me :D . Ordered the KYB's ( £41 + vat each is that a good price?) and will be putting 288 cc (i can't think what an imperial fluid ounce is!) of ATF in the front shock tubes. Next thing is a dyno session once i get some ethanol for the water injection and an adjustable cam pulley made up.

You`re welcome mate, any time. :D
I had the manual close by, so it only took a couple of minutes to find. I still don`t know what a fluid ounce is though...LOL.... (I will have to google it later);) . If you need anything else looking up, just give me a yell. Regards, Ian. |
The Imperial fluid ounce is 1/160 of an imperial gallon or 1/20 of an imperial pint or 8 fluid drams, about 1.734 cubic inches or 28.41 millilitres.[1] This volume of water weighs very nearly 1 avoirdupois ounce (it is the volume occupied by one ounce at 62 °F (16.7 °C), weighed in air with brass weights).
Wikipedia is GOD. |

But what does avoirdupois mean (sounds like a french swear word...LOL...) Regards, Ian. |
The avoirdupois (IPA: [ˌævərdəˈpɔɪz]; French:[avwar'dypwa]) system is a system of weights (or, properly, mass) based on a pound of sixteen ounces. It is the everyday system of weight used in the United States. It is still widely used by many people in Canada and the United Kingdom despite the official adoption of the metric system, including the compulsory introduction of metric units in shops. It is considered[citation needed] more modern than the alternative troy or apothecary or the medieval English mercantile and Tower systems.

Very likely to have been a sat or sun. Could have been heading towards Bramble Lane for a quick sprint

I noticed there was a 'race prepped' S12 on ebay, the advert mentioned the use of porsche 968 stocks.
Ebay S12 added to ebay for sale page. |
