Engine tune questions

Hi guys, me & a mate just bought an S12 and have done a huge amount of work to prepare it for next year. As can be seen here in the photo's:D

We want to use it for drifting so we have caged it all up, bucket seats, and welded the diff up to name a few mods. We have a few questions about engine tuning. We have fitted a massive FMIC so have increased lag.
How do you increase fuel pressure? can you fit a valve to restrict the flow back to the tank or is a 255lph pump the only way to go?
How do you increase boost to match fueling?
How do you know if it is running lean or not?
What offset and centres do the wheels have? or what oyher wheels fit? ie rover 200?
Many thanks for your advice in advance.
Hans

get an aftermarket fuel reg ie: fse glenco fixed rate reg, you can increase the pressure behind the injectors, usually they run rich anyway, i ran 18psi on a t25 with a cossy i/c, so with that you should be ok, the cheap way is to run a cold start injector on a boss before the throttle body, with a pressure swith into the plenum, then have it on the dyno, they with check your fueling and timing etc.

Nice work.Did you make the cage?

the nearside intercooler hose looks like it may be one for reguler 'pop offs' lol

lmrdave 13-11-2007 07:40

Question for you: is that a bolt in cage or have you had it custom made or fabbed it yourself?

Good work btw looking good

mr_turbo 13-11-2007 10:50

wheels are 4 by 114 with a 35offset basically most jap 4 studs will fit ie 4stud hondas etc

i want a cage like that where did you get it ?

what other performance mods has it got other then fmic?
what strut brace is that as well fanx?

old-and-rusty 13-11-2007 12:19

Hi Hans,
That`s looking really good. Sorry I can`t offer any advice, but I would love to know, where you got your strut brace from as well.
Regards,
Ian.

me to, that looks like it would fit the fj engine.

H8NSKPAUL 13-11-2007 15:13

Thanks for your advice guys, I will look into that and keep you all posted on the progress. That hose you said about has been adjusted and reclamped since the pics and should hold fingers X.;)
In answer to your many questions, I am a welder fabricator by trade for 20 years & have the added benefit of being the works manager at my workshop in Peterborough, cambs.
So, yes, I did design and fabricate this non FIA cage and it is welded in as bolt in ones are weeker and more complex & therfore more time consuming.
If any of you are local and have a spare £300 cash and dont mind leaving the car with me for a couple of weeks, let me know and I may be interested.

I also made the strut brace ends and was donated an old Skyline alloy cross bar which worked a treat. Again, if some of you are genuenly interested then I may be up for making a few. Would be about £60 each, I would need a few orders to justify getting some alloy bar and tube etc..

I also made my own air intake box (though this is a one of due to head light conversion & relocating various components to make way for one of intercooler pipe)and MAF adaptor plate for the cone filter to bolt to, I can make loads of these in stainless steel for about £10 each.

Cheers, Hans.:)

datdrift 13-11-2007 16:32

if your gonna use it for drifting i would advise fitting some steering rack spacers if you havent already, and if your going for 3rd gear+ probably a t25 for a bit more grunt?

H8NSKPAUL 13-11-2007 20:41

Steering rack spacers...interesting....to get more lock to lock.
What do you recomend size wise?
Cheers.

James H 13-11-2007 20:53

Hey good work my friend, you have the same alloys as me, where do you live & if you get intrest would def be intrested in a strut brace.

mr_turbo 14-11-2007 01:14

i second that am intreasted in strut brace i was going to buy a s13 one see if it fitted

Dazz 14-11-2007 12:40

Loving this thread, im doing an i dentical project, even the cars black, but youve totally made my effort look pretty basic, im not jealous.

datdrift 14-11-2007 12:47

i run 5mm spacers, i think driftworks stock some 3mm ones for the s13 that fit? s12's have shit lock as standard so this is one of the best drift mods for them otherwise your be forever spinning out whereas if you were in say a s13 you would catch drifts much easier;)

old-and-rusty 14-11-2007 22:33

I`m definately interested in buying a strut brace from you, if you are prepared to make some up, that would be great.
Would they be just plain alloy or would you be able to anodise them ?
If anyone else is interested, perhaps we could get a bulk order going :D .
Regards,
Ian.
P.s. Have you ever thought about rear strut braces too ?

H8NSKPAUL 15-11-2007 13:01

CHEERS FOR THE INFO GUYS, VERY USEFUL SITE IS THIS!:)

Nobody buy any braces, I will make some up in the very near future and bung em on ebay for you guys to 'buy it now' at a sensible price with P&P on top. I will leave them in raw state so you can spray them yourselves unless you give me some extra to powder coat. I will laquer the alloy.;)

Rear strut braces are agood idea. Get a pic or two up on this thread and I will see what I can come up with.

Hans.

James H 15-11-2007 14:06

Good man Hans!! So where are you based?

Pictures of what?

H8NSKPAUL 15-11-2007 17:09

Peterborough, Cambs.

I need some idea of a design. If they do that sort of thing any more for the S12, if not then an S13?

Hans.

CNHSS1 15-11-2007 18:03

great fabrication!! love the orange cage too.

s13eater 15-11-2007 19:12

rear braces stiffen it up a lot, i made one for my mk1, its in the loft, its nothing sparkling but effective.

old-and-rusty 15-11-2007 23:53

Hi Hans.
That would be great, if you could post a link on here to the ebay page, once you have some braces fabricated :D .
Regards,
Ian.

323ian 17-11-2007 20:57

Hi Hans,
Im not far from you at Norwich and am building a S12 similar to you for drifting and trackdays but yours looks like it is better prepared to be honest.
What subframes did you use for your seats mate?
I used Fiesta seats and bolted them stright to the floor!
Did you make the cage? If so could you give me a the size and diamter of the pipe you used please?
Cheers,
Ian.

H8NSKPAUL 18-11-2007 12:51

I made the subframes up from 3mm mild steel for the bucket seats adjustable rails to bolt to.
The tube used to build my roll cage is 1.5mm thick 38mm diameter mild steel tube. It was designed and built by me at my workshop.
Hope this helps?
Hans.;)

lmrdave 19-11-2007 08:04

Cage tube wants to be CDS tubing too, if you want it to do it's job properly, from the dimensions given it sounds like thats whats been used in this one.

H8NSKPAUL 14-12-2007 19:33

Sorry to those waiting for me to put a thread up here for the strut braces I have began to make, but it is very hard for me to get hold of any nice looking obround section ali tubing. Can it be made from 25 to 30 mm diameter round tube or some rectangular tube like 40 x 20mm?
Hans

s13eater 14-12-2007 19:43

if your struggling, then let me know, i have a place that can get most things and sells it in what lengths you want.

H8NSKPAUL 16-12-2007 15:45

Great!! I'm up for that, give me the details please?
Cheers, Hans.

s13eater 16-12-2007 15:50

try better metals at alfreton on 01773 / 832238.

Oscar 16-12-2007 16:07

Oscar 16-12-2007 16:25

s13eater 16-12-2007 16:38

paulsilv 17-01-2008 21:53
