Standard rear spoiler

The standard rear spoiler on my silvia looks a bit knackered and i was thinking of taking it off, whats peoples opinions?

It's that foamy like spoiler and mine has gone a little green and got some little chunks missing, if i was to take it off a). how do i take it off? b). is it likely to be hiding big rust holes? as i know rusty tailgates are common on S13's.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks!

Silviagod does plastic copy ones. To get it off you need to undo/snap off the 10mm bolts underneath and peel back the double sided tape

Ah so i can be expecting holes then.

Ok might wait for a bit until i spray the lot then.

Thanks

TBH, I think they look better without the standard rear spoiler, even with the mounting holes still showing. I`ve never seen a car with the original spoiler that`s still in good shape ;) .

Ian.

i'am quite liking the stock one, but i wonder if someone could use one of the fiberglass ones and extend it by a couple of inches.

Yeah, I know what you mean, the cars would be boring if they all looked the same ;) . I`ve got a shogun style spoiler for mine, originally for a 200sx, but with a little modding it will fit okay.
TBH I think the aftermarket spoilers always look better than the standard rear spoiler :D . All the standard ones I`ve seen tend to have a wavy look where they are fixed to the car, that`s if they are still in one piece...LOL...

Ian.

Yeah im not quite sure what the thought process was behind fitting a rubbery/foamy spoiler, maybe the poodle perms effected their brain activity back then.

I think i will take it off actually, just stick a 2p coin underneath to cover the whole up for the time being, im going to spray the tailgate and bonnet black i think, eventually the whole thing will be black anyway.

i was once told it was an attempt at imitating porche's design for a foam spoiler, the idea being that at high speed the increased airflow would alter the shape of the wing and therefor also downforce. i suspect this is a load of breeze though, as the weight gain from using a rubber lump must offset any gain it gave:confused:

yeah thats y i didn't really wanna go for the se front spoiler, but then when i spun up a grass verge and bent the standard one it was the easiest option:D but then i had to get bigger wheel coz the 15's looked tiny with the skirts and spoiler :furious But i got cool oldskool advans and i love it:D

I had the same poblem when I first lowered mine the wheels didn`t look the way I wanted in the arches, so I got a set of five TSW 5 spokes made up, or rather I ordered them and the missus paid for them for my birthday ;) .

Ian.

its on avo -35 or 40mm! on the 15's it was running slightly lower profile tyres which helped! and the 17's fill the rear arch up nice up that height too;)

i'm pretty sure its the same size! i think its a silviagod one! i know when andy who i got it off fitted it he had to shave it down a bit to fit it so it seens to lean back and stick out a bit more by the look of it! but it has been a while since i saw a dood original one to compare it against
