What clutch to upgrade?

I see that an S13 clutch fits a S12 is this correct?
If so is it the early S13 clutches or the later ones as i see there are two types listed for the S13?
I need a clutch for the S12 for use on the track.
Any help appreciated.

this is the one i, and before a few others, have- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NISSAN-200SX-S...QQcmdZViewItem but i only paid about £100 for it from an online store, as opposed to ebay, unfortunately i cant remember which store it was

rpettafor 10-01-2008 17:19

just had a search, this is the 1 i got, from the place i got it - http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/parts_info.asp?id=445

Don't get a 2.0 litre one though.

That is very cheap for an exedy clutch on that link.

s13eater 10-01-2008 18:32

my luk clutch lasted well.

PukkaSilvia 10-01-2008 19:52

Luk/Exedy clutches are really good value and i was impressed by them. You shouldnt need anything stronger than one of them on the ca18et unless your trying to beat the BHP record

Good Link, out of interest has anyone ever done a list of directly changeable parts from S13/14/15 and other makes.

That would make life a lot easier for all the members.

I know making parts fit and modifying parts is all part of the fun but this would take out endless trauling of threads and asking shops for people who may just want to get in and enjoy driving these GREAT retro cars.

Personally I'm all for modding and making things fit with my BIG HAMMER,

Watch out for my GULF colours S12 coming soon (painting it Tomorrow)

either fits, there was a redesign of the release bearing but they're interchangeable.

Be careful of buying exedy clutches on ebay, there are a lot of fakes on there and a lot of people have been stung

S13 is directly swappable with S12!

Step one remove S12 from wheels.
Step two add S13 onto wheels.

:D

ok I will slap myself . . . :trout

323ian 11-01-2008 19:09

Thanks for all the help guys.
I will be buying one from that link which was posted up as that price is better than the ebay prices.

The idea about interchangeable parts is a very good idea and would be a usefull addition to the site.

Well that`s my plans for swapping loads of s13 parts onto my s12 out the window then :p ....LOL....
Regards,
Ian.

Its the actual s13 body and chassis which is a downgrade, Nissan used a much thinner and cheaper grade of steel on the 13 than on the 12. This maybe why we have seen s13s suffer from Rot more.

....LOL.... I was just joking Jon ;) .

But that does explain why there seems to be a lot more road noise inside the 13 compared to the Silvia if the panels are thinner.
TBH, it`s mostly the oily bits that I`ll be using anyway.

I guess that`s typical of a lot of car manufacturers though, to cut costs like that :( .

Ian.

its still a good bit heavier than the s12 though, is'nt about 1240kg ?

PukkaSilvia 12-01-2008 17:20

no idea but abs systems weigh a fair bit alone

323ian 13-01-2008 00:24

What is the stock weight of the S12?

dont think there's much in it, the s12 rear subframe and diff assembly is loads heavier than an s13 one, probably a good 30kg extra.

Only thing I'd say was a real big step forwards from the s12 to s13 chassis is the suspension. Just a shame its not an easy swap

s13eater 13-01-2008 10:38

mk1 s12 is 1135kg, mk2 is around 1175 / 1210kg, i'd have to look in my book for the exact mk2 weight, my mk1 was 1235kg with the extra weight of the skirts, bonnet and that rear wing.

Does anyone know if the S13 slave cylinder fits on the S12 please?

30psi 20-02-2008 14:05

Yeah should be the same except a slightler different piston size

323ian 22-02-2008 12:22

Do you know that for certain please?
Cant get a S12 cylinder and need one to put on the car.

30psi 22-02-2008 13:36

If you do a search it was discussed about the S13 one giving a slightly lighter pedal feel, and pukkasilvia found somewhere to buy the s12 one from in the same thread

323ian 23-02-2008 19:33

Thanks buddy, not to concerned about pedal feel just wanted to know the mounts are in same place.
