yay! Another problem!

ok problem number 2, i think my gearbox maybe fubar, its an auto, when its cold, and sometimes when its warmed up, 2-3 and 3-overdrive it dosnt want 2 change, revs go up speed only slowly increases, and it feels like its gona hit 8k rpm before it wants 2 change, also when its cold if u put it into drive it stalls like if u bring up a clutch, the weird thing is when the problem occurs the voltage rockets up 2 around 15.7-9 v.

s13eater 03-03-2008 19:36

to start with, check your transmission fluid, i thought mine was fecked after it had been up on axle stands for months, i started it up, put it in reverse and drive, but it wun't move, i toped the fluid up and worked the gear change back and fourth for about a hour, until it started to creep forwards, it did eventually right itself.:)

Oscar 03-03-2008 19:39

tried checking the level, but the dipstick would not budge! Me and niki pulling did nothing, leaving 2 soak so wd40 round it

northerner 04-03-2008 19:18

check the vacuum pipe from the inlet fanimold. If still no joy email Silviagod

Oscar 04-03-2008 19:36

cheers will do, the fluid level was nothing 2 write home about, very small top up, il do another vacum check,

Oscar 05-03-2008 15:45

would say a low oil level/knacked diff be 2 blame?

the diff will have nothing to do with the Auto box

Oscar 18-03-2008 23:06

right in between the s15, bin tinkering with the s12, and ive noticed when this problem occurs, the fuel pump runs like the clappers and never switches off! Is there a fuel regulator on these cars? And ive checked the wires 2 the pump, would overfueling cause these probs?

Fuel reg is attached to the fuel rail. The auto box would work regardless

Oscar 19-03-2008 11:51

right the problem is now, voltage goes right up, idiling in neutral is fine, in drive etc it cuts out, idles too low, and if u try and drive it, its very sluggish, and wont change up, and fuel consumption is bad, then if i run it for 10mins, switch it off, then its fine. Then few hours later it wil do it again!

Oscar 19-03-2008 11:54

and the exhaust is quieter when its playing up, and the fuel pump seems to run like the clappers

PukkaSilvia 19-03-2008 20:30

Your questions if they are questions are all jumbled.:o

Oscar 20-03-2008 12:54

sorry lol, here are the symptoms. Engine tries 2 cut out in drive. Fuel pump very noisy. Lacks power. Struggles 2 change up. Exhaust goes quieter and no poping and banging. But it only does this first drive of the day, very rarely continues after the first drive. Think it could be the fuel system?

PukkaSilvia 20-03-2008 19:19

it could be anything from the ignition timing to fuel pressure reg for example. Your going to have to work through the list from before on your last thread.

forget the auto gearbox from the equation at the moment.

also remember previous issues ie your injector plug and afm

zxocmars 20-03-2008 20:48

If it only runs rough at the first drive, I wouldn't rule out damp in the dizzy.

s13eater 20-03-2008 20:59

oscar why dont you bring the car up take me a run out in it & lets see if we can sort it out , i have got loads of spares that we can try. let me know when :)

Oscar 21-03-2008 15:57

would wednesday be ok? I stripped all the injector plugs off 2day, cleaned em all up, not much diference, but if i wiggle the main injector harness it hunts around, so might be a break in the cable somewhere..

thats fine, infact i had a cracked wire on an injector, have you tried running the engine, then disconnecting the injector plugs one by one, try it whilst its acting up, you should be able to see which one it is.obviously disconnetind 3 out of 4 of them will make it worse.

silviagod 21-03-2008 18:13

If I wiggle the main harness on mine it hunts a little and that is because the plug going to the throttle contacts is breaking the circuit momentarily. the main harness was not designed to be wiggled!

Oscar 21-03-2008 19:17

disconected each in turn, nothing. Did a compression check, well mate did, i think he said 137 psi on all four, cleaned the afm again, cleaned all plugs leads etc, changed fuel filter, swoped the air filter, cleaned batt terminals, flushed the coolant, checked oil level, checked al vacum lines, cleaned the tb out. And stil nothing. Then went and ripped the exhaust off on his drive! Dammit! Begging 2 hate this car!

s13eater 21-03-2008 19:23

i found a spare pump.try cleaning the iaa unit and the cold start up as well, can't hurt anything.

Oscar 21-03-2008 19:33

stupid question, but where are they on the engine?

s13eater 21-03-2008 19:34

on the front of the inlet manifold.

Oscar 21-03-2008 19:40

i no where u mean! Ok wil try and clean it out.

Oscar 21-03-2008 21:02

but surely wouldnt alter the running, only idling.

Oscar 22-03-2008 17:04

its fixed! Well sort of, today had the dash out and as much of the bulkhead aspossible... Water had been running down inside the bulk head, unfortunatly i have 1 piss wet thru ecu, and a sea of rust, must have been bad for years, nearly the entire bulkhead under the windscreen is gone, all under the scuttle panel. More welding needed! And need 2 wring my ecu out

s13eater 22-03-2008 17:09

i can remember my mk2 astra gte getting wet into the ecu.

s13eater 22-03-2008 17:10

has it got an intercooler on it oscar ?

Oscar 22-03-2008 17:12

not yet, was going 2, but this problem bin keeping me busy

Oscar 22-03-2008 18:45

well the ecu is dry now, and seems 2 run a lot better, but stil seems down on power, but at least its running ok now

Well i suppose, in a way I was right in my earlier post

DAMP

Oscar 22-03-2008 23:11

yep il let u have that one! Just gota figure out the loss of power now

Oscar 23-03-2008 19:12

feck feck feck! Ok i had only loss of power, now i have very bad idle again! Its okish while driving, but idling like poo! I cant think of anything left to check!

Oscar 23-03-2008 22:04

damn the missus has given me an ultimatum, fix the car by next weekend or i have to sell it!

Oscar 24-03-2008 19:43

ok mite have found it, i can hear air escaping fron the pop valve in the inlet manifold and if i play with it it affects the idle! Just gota find a large bolt to stick in it! Where have you lot got urs from?

go to jacksons building supplies just off of the doughnut in chesterfield, you will get a brass threaded bung, thats where i got mine from for about £3.

Oscar 24-03-2008 20:56

cheers shaun!

Beany-s12 24-03-2008 22:08

was an imperial tapered thread plumbing blanking plug used in my last 2:D

umpkin 24-03-2008 22:26

i think its a 1" bsp thread

martin mentioned it before on a previous thread.
