Gotta get this going....
Hi all,
Another new member who was too busy/lazy to say hi straight away! Truth is, I'm still not sure how to post pics on here so delayed saying hi till I sorted it - but that's not happened so I could be waiting years!! My Uncle heard I was looking for a rear wheel drive car for the DWYB days at Santa Pod - having been dragging Fiat Pandas for a bit I thought it might be fun! What I wasn't expecting was for him to say "have my Silvia...." Now my Uncle is in his 70s, and parked the car up around 7 years ago as it was becoming unreliable - the main reason being that he's got it tuned to around the 360 BHP mark! There are quite a few mods on it that he can remember (and it would appear a few that he can't!). It's got forged pistons, a DTA ECU, bigger turbo, 16V head (I think!), lowered, big brake conversion etc. As I said, it hasn't moved for a number of years, so will need a fair bit of work getting it back on the road. Unsurprisingly the battery has died, so I'll need to replace that before even thinking about firing it up (after an oil change!). It's got a bit of rot under the rear spoiler, so that'll have to go, and we've also stripped the interior out checking for any rust problems - but to be honest, it's looking VERY sound. Anyway, I hope to get some pics on here when I can, and I apologise for any stupid questions that I may have to ask. I have found this site useful already - downloading the manual was a god send just to get the trim ot of the interior! Cheers Austen |
hi there matey, who's your uncle ?, perhaps we know of him.:):)
|
My Uncle is Ted Gunn
If you've ever driven from Chelmsford to Writtle in the last five years then you would have seen the car - red Silvia, on the left hand side just before the traffic lights. If you've ever met Ted you'd remember him - one hell of a driver! Knows the Snetterton circuit like the back of his hand! Cheers Austen |
get some pictures up of the car. sounds like it could be a bit of a beast :D
|
yep i know the one! it went past me once when i owned an old colt turbo back in 99 and i was flat out, cut past me like a dream.
the nob who i bought my silvia from has been buttering that geezer up on the off chance he will sell that red silvia. this news has given me alot of satisfaction, as i reckon my mate is a bit of a selfish prick. i dislike human emotions! i always meant to pop by and say hello in my silvia but never got the chance. send the pics! use this to upload the pics: http://imageshack.us/ |
Photos
Just checking to see if I can get this right!

i spot a silvia engineering boost guage kit................ quite gd actually. Put an engine bay pic up...
|
Some more pics...
One of the car once it's been cleaned! Funny how a bit of water makes it look sooooo much better!
http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/5...eanresized.jpg Picture of the engine bay - not too good I'm afraid, too many shadows. I'll try to take some better ones another day. http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/5...ineresized.jpg Next, the front brake conversion - huge calipers (and unlike the back two, these aren't seized!) http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/2...kesresized.jpg And finally a shot of what the inside now looks like after a weekends work... http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/2...ideresized.jpg Most of the internal trim was in quite good nick (other than the drivers seat) but I doubt I'll be using any of it again. Problems fixed to date - rear brakes no longer seized, clutch no longer jammed, and the engine turns over (doesn't fire up, just turns over!). We've had the ECU checked out today as there was no spark getting to the plugs, but apparently the ecu is alive and kicking so we have got some electrical issues. Oh, and the headlights don't go up any more, so we've cranked them up and pulled the headlight motor power supply plug out. The aim is for this car to be MOT'd and running at Santa Pod in nine weeks time - think I may be cutting it a bit close! Oh - and cheers londonsilvia for the photo upload link! |
Not bad at all. :)

the whale tail has been taken off...

I'm still in love with such azev rims on s12.
Welcome mate. |
Mot
You aint gonna believe this, but the bloody thing only went and passed it's MOT today!!!
It stills needs a lot of work, but at least we're roadworthy!! Got some more pics I'll try to put up at the weekend, but in the meantime. does anyone know a good source for a replacement light stalk on the streering column - the contacts are playing up so we fitted a an extra relay in to get both lights to work! Also, replacement hoses? Can you still get them from Nissan or is there an alternative supply anyone knows about? Cheers Austen |

Wheels
The AZEVs that were on the car have been joined by a few other sets over the last few weeks.
http://a.imageshack.us/img834/6416/whitewheels.jpg These are a 16" set, that only just fit over the AP brake conversion - these were originally going to be the "road legal" versions, as there is an issue with the AZEVs, but then I went on holiday and came back to.... http://a.imageshack.us/img814/4428/wheelsforthemot.jpg I saw these for sale originally on this site, but decided not to get them as the fronts needed longer studs and spacers to fit - my brother then saw them on Ebay and figured it would be the cheapest way to get the car to an MOT garage! Didn't need the spacers etc, they fitted straight away - guess the brake conversion must have involved a few changes (Sorry Northerner - I owe you the extra £10!) The reason for several different sets? The 17" AZEVs stick out at the front by around 25mm, so no longer road legal - no worries, as we've got some track day tyres that'll fit so they'll still be useful (sorry Stu, gonna keep them for a while yet). The white 16"s are there cos I like the Motorsport look - these may get part worns for drifting, slicks for dragging, not decided yet. And the last set - well, need one road legal set after all, especially now it has an MOT! And this is now the new driving seat... http://a.imageshack.us/img340/2895/somewheretosit.jpg Gonna run the car for a few weeks, to see what breaks/falls off, and hope to get it booked in for a tuning session in 3 to 4 weeks time (need to make some calls next week). Other than that, I should be taking it to North Weald RWYB on Sept 5th - be good if any other S12s want to join me - be warned though, we'll probably be running a Fiat Panda as well! (Any info on the light stalk or hoses would be appreciated). Cheers Austen |
Brakes
Hi want did you do with the old brakes and discs
|
Tax and a tune...
And now it's taxed (ouch!)
And booked in for a tune next week...... Austen |
you should get pukka to do your tuning mate. GT Developments, its on this site somewhere. he runs this site and is a don of the silvia with the DET lump.
|
how did it go
hi how did it go on the tune up ?

Tune up
The tune up went fine, it didn't blow up!
Just driven it home for the first time - Basildon to Chelmsford - and it only used up a quarter of a tank of petrol! Worth every penny - still grinning!:D Ah well - I can start saving up to drive to the petrol station now! I've missed the thread on the Colchester meet - where/when? |
Hi mate it's thursday nigth Colchester hive me a ring 07958026748
I will let you know what did it make bhp |
How did you mount that bucket seat???????
|
Bucket seat
We've taken the sub-frame off of the original seat and bolted the bucket seat to that - needed to keep the seat adjustable as it wont just be me looning it up drag strips and around the track. We're gonna mount the passenger seat in (non adjustable) after Santa Pod.
|
Maybe it was a bit more than I thought....
I have been reliably informed that the original seats don't actually have sub-frames, and that I'm talking bolloxs! The other member of Team Dangerous Brothers actually did the work of mounting the seat (and most of the other bits as well!) and it took him four days! And, apparently, I'm not to hold my breathe waiting for the passenger seat to be done!
Off to North Weald RWYB on Sunday - lets see what times she'll do. Gotta be better than the 16.03s fastest that I've got out a Panda! Cheers Austen |
hi mate
hi how did it go fancy coming to colchester meet soon
what did you get on the bhp ?? what stage is it running |
North Weald, 5th September
Looks like I need to learn how not to spin the rear wheels all the time!
Quarter miles times and terminal speeds through the day were; 15.3s at 95mph 15.7s at 101mph 16.1s at 88mph  15.81s at 96mph 15.2s at 103mph 15.17s at 100mph 14.85s at 103mph :D 14.93s at 102mph 15.06s at 104mph Not what you'd call consistant, so I'm guessing driver error caused a few problems! Found a post on youtube of one of the runs; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLKy-4dlYvk The first race on this link is against the car I normally race in, the second is against the Silvia. Cheers Austen |
