Carbon bonnets and light covers

There's a company over here doing custom carbon fibre parts at the right kind of prices.
If we can get orders for multiples of 5 of anything we want then we won't have to pay for the making of the moulds so I'm just throwing this out there to guage interest.
I might get some doorcards done as well.:D

Dr Silvia 07-06-2010 14:51

Whats the deal with shipping?

irish s12 07-06-2010 15:06

I havn't worked that one out yet,but you can get carbon bonnets shipped from japan so it should be possible to send them accross the Irish sea I'd say.
Either that or we will have to put them in a van and bring them over.

Dr Silvia 07-06-2010 15:40

I'm thinking a trip would be best with a van what with the prices ive seen for ireland recently.

Sounds like a good plan. what kind of numbers are they quoting price wise?

irish s12 07-06-2010 16:11

I've had to send them some pictures and they are going to get back to me with a quote.
We could get wings and other bit's made in carbon, kevlar or grp.
Provided wehave an order for 5 or more.

irish s12 07-06-2010 16:27

Ok,bonnets would be 700euro plus whatever we would have to work out with shipping.

I reckon thats not too bad for a bespoke limited production run of s12 bonnets:cool:

irish s12 07-06-2010 18:36

The company that makes them reckons 60 euro for delivery to the uk:D

irish s12 08-06-2010 19:37

Anybody?

paulsilv 08-06-2010 20:26

Do they just do Carbon, maybe prices for kevlar and GRP may be a cheaper option for members if they can make them off 1 mould:)

irish s12 08-06-2010 20:50

No they do grp and kevlar as well,I'll have to get prices on them though.Once the mould is made we can get any of them made up:D

paulsilv 08-06-2010 21:07

Sounds good to me:)

irish s12 08-06-2010 21:14

I'm getting carbon though:D

s13eater 08-06-2010 21:56

i'd love one but as my plenum and throttle body switch sit high, so i have to have that silly bulge in mine, i think i'll eventually make another plenum, or alter the runners.

sounds good mate, it would be good if we could make the rear window smaller, like the sillohette, it would save loads of weight.what about doors too, or would that be an mot failure.

irish s12 08-06-2010 23:15

Sure we could make a whole s12 in carbon if we can get 1 to make the moulds off.
I'm thinking about bootlid, bonnet and light covers anyway.
Would you lend me your car for the gp kit to be copied?
Or does anyone have 1 not fitted yet to copy?

Draconis 09-06-2010 02:23

Knew you would be posting over here mate. I am working on funds and such. Very keen but have spent quite a bit as of late to finish my swap. :(

I know of a perspex place on the same estate as where I work but haven't chased it up yet. :)

irish s12 09-06-2010 19:19

The biggest weight saving would bee the boot lid I'd say, maybe we should consider these first. We could do them in grp with a perspex window no problem.

paulsilv 09-06-2010 23:11

Theses mods have been threatened many times, it would be great to see these in production and on my car:D

This isn't a threat,if there is enough interest then it will happen;)

s13eater 10-06-2010 01:23

It had a different engine,so that might not be possible. We could save some serious weight in the bodywork though:cool:
I need some people who are genuinly interested though, otherwise I'm going to be the only person in the world with a carbon bonnet:trout
