turbo chatter?

new to turbos.just piped in a front mounted intercooler.when i let of revs i get a shuddering sort of noise from turbo area.didnt get this before(or it was not as loud so i couldnt hear it)read about it on wikipedia and it says its either air gettin pushed back through turbo as you let off revs or the wastegate.which is it most likely to be and can it damage anything .thanks

its turbo chatter matey, as it says, air rushing back over the blades, can cause turbo stalling, dump valves can protect against this.:)

turbo

ill get hold of a dump valve this week then.just tryin to get things sorted b4 i start altering boost pressure.couple of joints keep blowing off on intercooler pipes, going to put them on tool tomorrow to put ridge round were silicon pipes join them .hopefully should be good then.cheers for that any way.:)

Make sure its a piston type or it will cause loads of problems like idle and will run lean

dump valve

ok thanks.

In my opinion the backspin sounds alot better than a tacky dump valve :)

s12pickup 13-09-2010 17:57

re dump valve

dont mind sound of backspin but apparently can cause damage to turbo ,or it to stall.dump valve reduces risk of this.(this is what ive been informed).cheers

What boost pressure are you running?

Its not nessesery on a T2 and mine never stalls, id save you money for something else :)

s13eater 13-09-2010 19:59

i think its a t25.

s12pickup 14-09-2010 00:28

re dump valve

it is a t25.only running 7-8 psi at minute.changing plugs on thursday and then going to turn boost up a bit now intercooler ok.any suggestions what psi should be ok.:)

s13eater 14-09-2010 09:31

i think between 10 and 12psi, you could do with it set on the rolling road, then it could be notched up and keep an eye on the afr at the same time:)

s12pickup 14-09-2010 13:47

psi

going to merlins rolling rd nr ollerton.got 1000bhp dyno set up .quite cheap too.soon as ive done faffing its goin there.what is afr (air fuel ratio ????)if it is this thats why i want to know which cars are same thread as lamda blank in manifold.ill get there eventually its all a learning curve for me.cheers:)

s13eater 14-09-2010 13:52

ahh got you, you want to use the lambda to check your air fuel ratio, thoght you was meaning you wanted to use a lambda in the ecu:o.

s12pickup 14-09-2010 14:00

lambda

nah only to check stuff.do it properly on rollin rd.just put boost gauge in .need to put boost controller in now.stainless for exhaust comin next week.will it need an fuel press gauge or should standard pressure be ok.

s13eater 14-09-2010 15:12

std regulator will be getting on a bit now, i'd put a new reg and gauge in mate.you can richen up a bit on the rollers by some extra pressure behind the injectors.

s12pickup 14-09-2010 15:21

reg

will do ,thanks for that, hopefuuly be about ready in fortnight.thanks
