S12 Grand Prix with the FJ20E(T?)!!!

Hello,

A mate of mine got a S12 Grand Prix Silvia with the FJ20E-engine in it!!

This year we want to upgrade his car a bit!

Nowhere in Europe the FJ20ET is ever sold in a Nissan, but fortunately we found the FJ20ET-engine on a junkyard in Holland. (they ordered a SR20DET engine, but unfortunately they got this one from Japan!) Too bad for us! :D

Before we do the engine-swap, we first are looking for some parts, like a FMIC, Apexi AFC to control the fuel and maybe a stronger gearbox to handle the 200+hp. And anybody knows how to find a LSD? Does an S13 or S14 Diff fit on the S12?

We also like to lower the car a bit, can anybody tell me where we can buy lowering springs for the S12?

And his rear-spoiler is worn-out  , so we like to get a new one!! I saw that the most S12 on this forum has a nice "big" spoiler, is this a standard spoiler in the UK? and more important, does anybody has some spoiler for sale?

Cheers:) ,

Kevin

Sex on wheels.... gawd damn how I wish we got those in the States... but a VG30E powered S12 is close enough I guess. Well, not ever as good as a FJ, but certainly better than the other two options, CA18ET or even worse the CA20E.

i've seen fj gearbox's on fj.com handling over 400bhp, you need a rb25 gearbox with a uprated tail shaft.personly i would not use an afc, you need a complete managment system and get rid of the air flow meter, i have a large intercooler for sale that i would post, and its custom built for the s12.:)

I don't know if the gearboxes of the FJ20E and the FJ20ET are the same!

And I've read that the RB25-gearbox is the best choice, but they're very hard to find here in Holland, because the Skyline is never sold here.

The gearboxes that are available here in Holland are the boxes of the Z31, Z32 and S14, but I don't know if they fit! Maybe only swap the box and use the FJ-bellhousing?

Isn't it possible to swap the FJ-airflowmeter for an Z32 airflow-meter? You can convert this with the Apexi AFC, am I right?

i've heard of people using the s14 box and changing the bell housing:)

Update

Update:

In the past months we bought some parts for the swap:

Turboboost-gauge
Apexi SAFC
Forge BOV
Clutch-disc (the original was worn out)
New spark plugs
4 meters off 3" pipe with bends for the exhaust
Supra Intercooler
2 stainless steel T3-flanges
(this because we must replace the turbo on another spot because otherwise the turbo would hit the steering rack. We are going to make a J-pipe so that the turbo would be located near the rocker-cover in the front).
Lowering springs

And maybe we buy another S12 FJ20 next week for 200euro's for spare parts. This because the gearbox we now have is a bit worn out.

Update

We will start with the swap over about 2 weeks....:1la

Update:

Last monday we started with the engine-swap.

We get the FJ20E-engine and the gearbox out of the Grand Prix.
After that we swapped the starter, steering pump, injectorrail, etc etc.

We found out that the FJ20ET has a knock-sensor and the FJ20E hasn't.
Also the ignition is different, we swapped the FJ20E-ignition on the FJ20ET.

It seems that the injectors are all the same, a little bit strange because the NA FJ20 has 143hp and the ET has 190hp.

The ET has EGR and the E hasn't

We gave the ET a new clutch-disc and bolted the gearbox on the engine.
Now it's ready to put the FJ20ET into the Grand Prix, we'll do that tomorrow

Pics come hopefully later today...

Cheers!

Pictures off the ET-engine in will come tomorrow! :))

We tried to start the engine with the ET-injectors, but all 4 were broken. So we plugged in the E-injectors. (just to start the engine).

We had some problems with the distributor and the timing, but after many many many hours we managed to start the engine!! We almost gave up!

And we also discovered that the turbo and downpipe FIT in the LHD drive car. I read several times on the internet that the turbo will hit the steering-rack, but it dont!

But we have lots of work to do, intercooler + piping and complete exhaust, so I think the fine-tuning and driving under boost will be about a few weeks....

But we're so happy the car finnaly started after 8 hours off searching what the problem was!

Top work there guys

I hope it all goes smoothly for you. I love those arches.

Update! :D :D :D :D

http://www.tati-motorsport.nl/public...issanSilvia/30

The S12 is driving with the new engine about one months now and the FJ20ET is doing very well! :D :D

The boost pressure is standard about 0,5bar and it has probably also the standard 190hp at the moment!

In the following weeks we will lower the S12, set the boost pressure to 0,8bar and maybe we will buy another S12 FJ20 for parts.

Kevin 03-07-2007 21:56

Update:

We put the FJ20ET ECU, ET Loom and ET MAF in the car! :D

Sorry, it will be in english in about a few weeks.
http://www.tati-motorsport.nl/public_html/?q=nl/node/81

We're now trying to set-up the fuel management so we can run at 14 PSI boost pressure!! The A/F-ratio is now above the 6000rpm too lean!

But till the 6000rpm is :1la :1la :1la :1la :1la

Cheers,

Update:

Because of the restriction with the original FJ20ET airflap, we removed the FJ20ET Computer and wiring and replaced it with the S14 SR20DET ECU and wiring. Now the engine runs with coilpacks and the SR20DET MAF.

The S12 is my friends car, I own an S110! :D

http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z.../ombouw384.jpg

Short spec list! S14 SR20DET engine, converted pitman-steering for custom power steering + rack, AP-brakes, Tein stagea coilovers, S13 hubs, custom subframe, custom adjustable tension rods and brackets and the rest of the sh*t.
