jAPEURO LOOK

Im planning on respraying my car in the next month.I have just done a photoshop off the bits which i am planning on smoothing. this includes all body lines and bump strips and fender flares and lower archers and indicators. I thought i would post a picture up. and then a picture of the actual car in comparison to it in a months time. Do you think the idea looks ok?

turbomike 13-04-2006 07:46

looking at this picture i think it will look good,i have not seen a s12 done in the euro look before and it will be different and look forward to seeing the finished job, just remember when its done not to park close to cars cos with no bump strips :ghey people just open their doors an rip ya paint off,had it happen before :furious

s13eater 13-04-2006 22:45

jon what size i/c pipe are you using ?

PukkaSilvia 14-04-2006 10:14

65mm hot and cold side.

i forgot to smooth away the upper side line under the window seal in that photoshop.i only smoothed away it on the wing....I hope it will all look ok. It will be my first respray too. I'm looking forward to doing it.Shame i have a bout 2 weeks in evenings worth of prep work to do beforehand

turbomike 14-04-2006 13:22

how are you going to tackle getting rid of the swage lines out of interest?

PukkaSilvia 14-04-2006 17:42

Fibreglass base and then sandable filler top. Ive just bought all the materials so i will start it sunday.

FLEXXX 15-04-2006 18:13

it should look good mate are you planning on removing the arieal and door handles aswell as that will look mad proper straight lines

PukkaSilvia 15-04-2006 20:23

Yes i am removing the ariel and also smoothing in the rear spoiler. The door handles are staying there though.

I have just bought my paint.....My bodywork has suddenly become a little adventurous :D . Hopefully i can pull it off.I will be doing the whole thing myself after work hours with advice from people at work as i go along to minimilise the f**k-ups.

turbomike 16-04-2006 16:09

like somebody said on here"its better when you do the work yourself":D,so youve never sprayed a car before?

PukkaSilvia 16-04-2006 23:08

nope:rolleyes:.We have a bodyshop with equipment at my work and my boss and another guy who work there have been showing me how to do the stages. they will give me advice between each paint layer.

I fitted a better drivers side wing today as my other one was rotten down by the sill and had to refit my rear spats as they had cracked where the car grounded out on a slope :( . Hopefully i can get some more fillering and fitting done tommorow and get the missus to help:p .I hamerited the inside of the replacement wing so hopefully it will last.

I came to a slight problem,by removing the wing indicators my indicators are going to flash too fast.I havnt decided to leave them connected as standard or put the bulbs in line somewhere else hidden

umpkin 17-04-2006 09:42

thats strange, side repeaters dont normally make a difference to the speed.

PukkaSilvia 17-04-2006 13:22

oh lol. I just made an assumption :o . I will go and have a go. I smoothing in the rear panels at the moment. Its tiring. Especially when i havnt eaten today yet and yesterday i had an easter eggs only day with chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner

PukkaSilvia 17-04-2006 20:20

Whats it going to be then Adz or is it a big secret:D :D :1la

s13eater 27-05-2006 12:50

in the pic, are you checking for bird flue ? or as the forensics found something:D

PukkaSilvia 27-05-2006 20:20

Thanks for putting them up Adz. ;)

I sprayed its black base coat today. Its ok.Its got a fair bit of dust in it due to it being done in a shed. At least its all one colour. Im back in there tommorow to do the the coat of metalflake and then the laquer.

Its not going to be anything amazing as its a rushed job and not the best environment but it will tidy the car up a fair bit and should look reasonable.

Hopefully Adz can put some more pics up in a bit as my sister has buggered the pc and i cant transfer my pictures :(

s13eater 27-05-2006 20:31

all that you need is some red neons in the grill, "pukka there's a large vehical approaching" lol.:D ;) anyhoo looks  mate.

s13eater 28-05-2006 17:21

could do with a pic out in the natural light mate, are you pleased with it jon ?

PukkaSilvia 28-05-2006 17:22

It all went tits up.........

It had dust in each layer and by the time it got to metalflake it was like sandpaper. i then tried to thicken the flake up to cover up the ruffness and it didnt work and just went either hazzy or runny. It will all need sanding off and re-doing in a place with an extractor fan with dust filters. I gave up at this stage and bolted the lights back in and thrashed the nuts out of it back to claires for a hug at 100+.....

Its disgusting. It should only come out at night:ghey

Oh well better luck next time. shame its not done for modified nationals

s13eater 28-05-2006 17:26

oh bugger:( i thought it looked good in the pics mate:)

PukkaSilvia 28-05-2006 17:51

it was coming along well. smoothing and primer coat were really good. The black was good when i left it. i came back this morning and it has dust all in it. i gave up from there really. i tried to level it with extra laquer etc and it became so cloudy in the place i was spraying that i couldnt see where i had been and hadnt and ended up getting runs from overlapping too much.Absolutely all of it went wrong. i will have to da sand it all off and hire an extractor fan and get a bigger workspace to do it in....or save up and get someone else to do it once i have re-prepped it.

It couldnt look any worse.

adzs12 28-05-2006 18:02

ahhh mate im gutted for you, i dont undersstand whats gone wrong besides the dust or how should i say.

It was looking spot on yesterday and you done everything by the book to the best you could:mad: :furious

PukkaSilvia 30-05-2006 17:56

OK The plan is to rag it too pieces round the track at rockingham and just have a bit of fun. Then il wait another week for everything to harden then inspect the primary fillerwork and touch that up if its cracked anywhere. Il just 180 da sand the whole lot back until its smooth and start again with a hired extractor fan. :)

I couldnt see beyond my nose without an extractor as the metalflake layer and laquer just turned the booth into a big white cloud.

I apologise in advance for having the worse bodywork at the show. Maybe il park it round the corner by the tents lol

adzs12 30-05-2006 22:23

dude it cant be that bad can it:confused:
