Silvia Coilovers (nicked from club-s12) !!!

Was looking around their site and found this thread ! :D

Martins front coilovers are similar to those fronts at a fraction of the cost ;).

s13eater 13-09-2006 15:27

hmm, can't see the page yet, but to do the coilovers it comes to £73 from rally design, springs are £15 each and the threaded tubes, spring seat, locking plate and cup for the top is, £21.50 each side.

30psi 13-09-2006 15:39

Prices have come down, used to be £104 for the lot

s13eater 13-09-2006 15:42

i suppose thats still cheap to do your own coilovers.

30psi 13-09-2006 15:43

Well yeh, its best to get decent shocks though for the best benefit. It will be too bouncy otherwise

Camber tops are a preference as well in my opinion

s13eater 13-09-2006 17:04

i'am gonna do pillow ball mounts, i had new kyb's in last year:)on the blue one front and rear.

Find the link for Club S12 again, I like to see what your talking about.

Basically it's easy to put S13, S14 or S15 front coilovers in the front of an S12.
The camber tops that almost all jap coilovers come with bolt straight into the S12 body and if you use S13 gear you can drop the S13 hub/spindle straight onto the S12 ball joint to join it all together. You will need to swap to S13 tie rods as well, they may have to be threaded slightly longer and perhaps have 5mm cut off them to fit with the S12 control arms (shorter then S13).
Alternatively you can use S13 control arms as well (25mm or so longer then S12) then you shouldn't have to touch the S13 tie rods however you will need to use an R31 castor rod or redrill the arm to suit the S12 rods (which i don't recommend due to the holes being so close together after you do that).
Or if you want to go even wider you can use S14/15 control arms, tie rods and coilovers. The S14/15 arms are an additional 25mm wider then the S13 ones so your track is starting to look pretty mean by now. The S14 coilover and hub/knuckle bolt together with larger bolts then the S13 ones but you can make S13 coilovers fit S14/15 hub/knuckles by drilling the holes in the coilover out or alternatively by making a sleave for the hub/knuckle part to take the smaller bolts the S13 coilovers use.
Brake options are whatever fits an S13/14/15 so CA brakes, SR brakes, 4 pots or GTR brembos etc.
That's about it really, oh yeah S14/15 front coilovers are apparently slightly taller then S13 ones and suit the S12 better, S13 ones often have to be wound up quite high which might be a bit of a problem if they only have preload adjustment and not true height adjustment.

30psi 14-09-2006 08:53

Yeh it is easy to do S13 coilovers.

I made these up by the way:

I've got S13 coilovers now. The only thing I havent looked into is the tie rod ends.

Are the S13 tie rod ends longer or shorter than the S12 ones?

If you use the S13 and S14 lower arms, you won't be able to adjust out the negative camber that this will create. Will make it look good though.

JackieFan 14-09-2006 10:12

What have you done on the Rear? At first I thought the front's were going to cause me the most problems, but after actually looking at what's involved then it really isn't the case :o

I was thinking about ditching the springs then fitting S13 coilovers to the shock mounts, then it looks like I'd need to fabricate and weld in some new towers.

Thing is... I can't weld!!! :trout

30psi 14-09-2006 10:14

Yeh the biggest issue is the mounting of the top. Unfortunately the tower is very narrow.

I just had lowering springs and gas shocks on the rear. I never ended up trying anything out

JackieFan 14-09-2006 10:43

What shocks are you using? (assuming it's not the Monroes i'm collecting on Saturday ;) )

30psi 14-09-2006 10:52

Yeh you are getting my rear shocks.

I'm not using the S12 anymore. The engine is going into something else;)

JackieFan 14-09-2006 10:54

Oh I see!! Fair enough! Have you got shot of the S12 then?

Any clues as to what you're dropping it in? :D

30psi 14-09-2006 10:59

Nope you'll see the S12 on saturday looking very poorly. I would take you out in it, but I havent even driven it since putting standard rusty discs on and it has no rear shocks at moment lol

The engine is going into a Datsun 910 2 door

JackieFan 14-09-2006 11:10

Shame, would have been cool to see what i'm trying to head towards in action! Nice choice for the engine swap! Don't see to many of those about!

I can't remember if you were running the DET or ET lump

30psi 14-09-2006 11:16

Its an ET with a DET block:

JE Forged pistons
Piper cam
Ported head
Vernier Pulley
Adapted DET inlet manifold
Cossie T3 turbo

Its currently on standard management at 240bhp but have some 550cc injectors and DTA for it when its dropped in the Datsun

JackieFan 14-09-2006 11:30

Nice! That's exactly the route I was looking at for mine. I was going to post a thread asking if anyone had put the DET block under an ET short engine!... No need to bother now ;)

30psi 14-09-2006 11:37

Yeah it means at a later time I can use the DET head which will no doubt see much more power. Mine will prob only get up to 270bhp at 20psi.

The S13 coilovers are going on the Datsun, with Z32 discs and calipers...

JackieFan 14-09-2006 12:36

You going to run the 910 as a bit of a daily drive or is it going to be a stripped out speed machine?

30psi 14-09-2006 13:16

Well it was gonna be a daily driver but I might just use the more economical escort. It will be more of a weekend car. I won't strip it though, I don't see the point...

JackieFan 14-09-2006 13:42

I can understand that!! I wonder how Titchmarsh is coming on with those money trees!! ;)

I personally prefer cars will bare minimal interior, but you're right though, there's no point for everyday use!!

Aren't those 2 door 910's rare as rocking horse poo?

Yeah I know of only 2 other ones.

JackieFan 14-09-2006 13:57

Awsome, It'll be nice to see the progress on that! Got any piccys of the shell yet?

30psi 14-09-2006 14:01

And this is when I fitted the S12 coilovers that I later sold. Shite pic though:

JackieFan 14-09-2006 14:19

Wow  that looks like its in good nick! I was almost expecting a multi-coloured barn monster! Especially considering how rare they are! Were you lucky enough to find one that a someone has had from new?

Other than the trasnplant what are your plans?

30psi 14-09-2006 14:26

Well I have some 16" dishy wheels, and the plan is to have it on the coilovers and thats about it.

I think its had a fair few owners, cant remember exactly!

turbomike 14-09-2006 14:42

how heavy is that 910 in compasion to a silvia for power to weight?

JackieFan 14-09-2006 14:42

sound's like that will be plenty. Nice little street sleeper!
