Engines coming out:(
I was well happy earlier after getting round to fitting my walbro and getting closer to buying a Gt28r, until this evening i was on my way with a mate to pick up a mini moto when i cornered at like 30 mph the front end felt shit and something was grinding:confused: i checked all under the front wheels and was expecting to see a track rod end or something broken but didnt see nout, then looked under the bonnet and saw that both engine mount bolts drivers side had sheared of again:furious The only thing i can think of is the 20 year old mounts are not taking the hard shifting at high speeds and just cutting the heads off the bolts when its rocking back n forth.
I recently helicoiled them about a month ago after the same happened, so after speaking to shaun im gunna uprate them with the 40mm rs200 ones and get shauns template for the 4mm spacer needed, then secure them with bigger strenghted bolts. Im gunna pull the engine out for this one to give me better access to drill out and retap with bigger than std bolts and do the same to all 4 bolts on both mounts and hopefully prevent this from ever happening again:ghey Still il be using this for now;) http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../IMAGE_267.jpg |
convert to s13 mounts
|
i dont understand this at all. im still on original mk1 mounts on my det. They work a treat. Check your gearbox mount is not loose or damaged
Sorry to here about that though. Hope you get it sorted ok |
It took my engine a year of abuse before it wrecked one of the bolts.
For sure though on the DET block you will find that one of the bolts will bottom out as the thread is only tapped half way in. You could use a washer to get around it. |
Well its not something im doing and i used washers last time to prevent them bottoming out:confused:
|
don't bother with bolts, use no more nails:D they may do a no more bolts as well.;)
|
How are you fitting them on?
I guess you jack the engine up and bolt the bracket on to the block then lower it to the mount? The only thing I could think of is that if you didn't disconnect the bracket from the mount then it may interfer with it tightening nicely against the block. I suspect you aint doing that as it would be harder than doing it disconnected from the mount. Maybe the bolts are simply gay? |
sorry to hear about that mate:mad: hope you can get it back on the road asap
|
I did bolt it to the block first then lower it on the mounts !im not completely stupid:ghey
|
didn't think you would but its the only thing i can think of.
It happened to me as well but only after quite a long time. |
Fixed the engine mount, after me and dr silvia looked at it out of the car, it was clear that the holes for the bolts had worn badly on the mount itself and caused the bolts to shear.so fitted a different mount and used strengthend bolts and all seems good. Then later on that day my walbro pump packed up, it sounded odd when priming, then it wasnt boosting properly and my safc knk warning was going ape:eek: Lucckily it didnt do any damage, so ive got the std pump back in for now.The pump cost me £50 and had allegedly only done 6k:rolleyes: Who knows
|
definatly not a power source or earth problem? Where you low on fuel when it packed up. Your guage may be telling you have more fuel than you have if the pick-up is not in the same place. Also running a pump dry can damage it.
Just an idea. :( |
Nah dude i removed the pump and the wires where all good an intact, it started playing up when i had filled up about an hour before so i had 3/4 of a tank.
The pump is as low as the standard pump was too:confused: Just a f***ked pump i guess:ghey |
yeah sounds like it. What a bugger. Are you going to send it back to the person you bought it from?
Oh. I just bought this. It should be here in a few days hopefully. So we should have a bit of a laugh. Same engine as yours etc....... http://www.minimotomaniacs.com/ebay/images/L7YA_01.jpg |
Id like to send it back and i will pm the guy but there aint much chance of refund:ghey
Bike looks cool, im glad ya got on:D Is it a race tuned one? with k&n and exhaust etc??? |
yeah all the extras..... il just fit a bigger carb to it and stainless exhaust i think.
I also ordered a new t3 gasket to get on before jae. Whats next on your car then? |
Well firstly ive gota replace this fooked pump:ghey Then i have the choice of a couple of GT28R`s with only a 3-6 k on them, or i might just go for it and buy a unit from bren for £575:confused:
|
hard choice isnt it. We have all had it with replacing turbos now. I dont know what to do either. I will probably wait until this one is completely shagged then buy a brand new one. But with a gt28r or whatever you may get a better chance of a good one than a 10 year old second hand t25 or t3. You could go for a t3 setup maybe. I really liked mine.Donreveys setup or sometihng?
|
Nah im definately going for the gt28r as ive heard its an awesome all round turbo and i think will suit my set up and style of driving perfectly:D
