This month in surgery

Okay so the sites been up fer ages so i thought maybe i should show you what i've been up to..

After identifying my clutch as having been a clutch a very long time, the world's cheapest exedy clutch was found at £fa (thanks pukka), the t3 was given a once over, and an oil line and turbo blankie was ordered..

then we threw the whole lot in one day when we were feeling adverturous, see the ressults for yourselves ;)

There are a couple of bugs to iron out, she keeps popping a hose and the fiat(sshhhh!) rad isn't quite man enough for the task in hand

Again thanks to pukka fer helping out with yet another hard days werk

Also gone on are jon's wheels, and a capacitor

Looks alot better and nice and tidy well done :)

Nice pipe work by the way;)

s12Rob 05-11-2005 16:58

lookin good m8, i need my ic plumbing in asap.

PukkaSilvia 06-11-2005 12:00

Shes a beauty. Was good fun working on it. Damn fast too when that boost hose holds out.

The rad should work ok if we swap thermostats for a z32 thermostat.

Dr Silvia 06-11-2005 16:47

That boost hose is currently holding out :whip went out fer a test earlier and it was loving it (tm)

as for the rad it will have to go, it doesn't even sit straight its too wide... mebbe the 300zx thermostat will help the cooling as a short term fix tho...

adzs12 06-11-2005 20:28

Do you think the turbo blankie is helping much or not? Would there be any point using a blankie even for the standard T2?

Dr Silvia 06-11-2005 20:31

i wouldn't bother on a t2, as theres boost 2000rpm up; but it definately makes a difference although at a cost, and you have to leave the thing to idle for a fair dose longer because of the temperature increase

adzs12 06-11-2005 20:36

Ok i was curious as ive never looked into turbo wrapping although ive seen skylines pushing big power using it.

I may use it when i get the T3 on but do i want to cover up a polished turbo and manifold lol:ghey

Dr Silvia 06-11-2005 20:56

dude you dont polish cast iron!:poke

the wrap only goes over the exhaust turbine housing as this is the only place you'd want to keep heat in

adzs12 06-11-2005 23:24

 Whos polishing cast iron My manifold will be stainless :trout

The turbo i have my eye on has a polished stainless heat shield around the exhaust housing so il have to see if the blankie is for me:)

Dr Silvia 07-11-2005 10:30

then the blankie lives underneath that 'heatshield'

The cast iron i was referring to is the turbine housing dude..:trout have ur fish back i dont like trout

30psi 07-11-2005 11:05

Are you saying that with the heat blanket, cool down time has to be longer?

When does your boost give you a kick up the arse?

LOL Me neither so keep it mate:trout

Dr Silvia 07-11-2005 12:08

i having problems atm; i have 1 rogue hose that just wont stay on  :ghey

and yes it has to idle longer after giving it stick

Dr Silvia 07-11-2005 20:07

btw martin what pressure have you set your fuel reg. pressure at?

30psi 07-11-2005 21:43

Suppose it takes longer to cool down...Its insulation at the end of the day. I will get some and fit it next time the turbo is off.

You still running water cooling?

I don't know what fuel pressure its running to be honest. Coz its a rising rate regulator and I have low vacuum, its prob wouldn't tell me much to take a base pressure reading.

I'm still only running a bar of boost. I turned it up to 17psi as its colder now but took the bren device off, and refitted it and haven't turned it back up. Might do that tomorrow me thinks.

FLEXXX 08-11-2005 13:36

bloody hell you have been busy well i am feeling ashamrd of myself for becoming a lazy sod need to start pulling my weight

Claire 08-11-2005 20:01

Looks Very Nice :)

nope seemed like too much effort for no vast gain...

Flexx you have the perfect excuse... You're waiting for bits from me:D

Claire, tank oo:)

30psi 25-11-2005 16:24

I'm not running cooling either...

Why would the fact you have low vacuum and it being a rising rate regulator not tell you much?. With an adjustable fuel pressure regulator you should set it up on a fuel pressure guage properly not guess it. You can use your boost guage to add or subtract your inlet pressure assistance to the regulator. Maybe im missing your point. explain? The reason being is you once said your cars std injectors were on there limits when it was on the rr at 17psi. by knowing your fuel pressure it may tell a bit more. A few extra psi on the fuel may make a few extra ponies if it allows that extra boost.

30psi 26-11-2005 02:13

If the vacuum is lower the fuel pressure will be higher. You can't work back to work out what the pressure would be at correct vacuum as it isn't a linear adjustment on that regulator. Its 1.7:1, you could try to use that, but doubt it would be reliable info.

The regulator was adjusted on the rolling road. No more pressure can be added because it will overfuel at lower rpm/full load as the boost builds up. It overfuels at high rpm but half throttle as well.

On a boot from idle the a/f ratio goes rich up to 10:1 as the boost increases between 3-4k, then it settles down after that point.

If Ant wants to use an adjustabe regulator he should set it per the factory service manuals suggested fuel pressure, then take it to a good rolling road to see whats happening at different rpms and loads.

PukkaSilvia 26-11-2005 10:16

Cheers for the info...ive just woke up so will try and get my head round what your saying later.

I understand how the regulator works etc.just not sure why You can't work back to work out what the pressure would be.....maybe once ive woke up.... cheers :)
