CA18ET information

It's been a while since i've had an S12 but i have need of one of their motors now :).
I'm planning on an engine upgrade in an R31 Pintara soon.
CA18DE + T was my first choice (did i mention i'm spending next to no money on this upgrade?) but a CA18ET has come up so i'm after some general information on it.
I have done some searching but no difinitive answers have surfaced.
Obviously i will be upgrading the fuel pump, exhaust and adding an intercooler as par of the course.
I have a T25G laying about i could bolt on as well.

What sort of boost could i expect to run on the stock injectors and management without running into problems.
Does the CA18ET have a rev limiter? (it's going to be a drift car so a limiter will be very usefull in keeping the motor alive me thinks)
How strong are the stock rods? I have heard people saying they are weak then someone else will say they have got 240hp (wheel hp?) on them.
Which is true?
130kw at the rear wheels is my goal but i'd settle for 110-120rwkw if i had to spend more money to get to 130rwkw.
Does adding the CA18DET ladder brace help much? Will i need new/longer bolts if i add the brace?
What sort of power will the stock sized clutch take? Is it going to slip at the first sign of abuse?

Thanks
Jarich

forgive the shortness of my reply but here are your answers in no particular order

about a bar
mk1 et ecu's have no limiter, mk2's do, but its a disgrace. get a proper one.
the stock rods will withstand 240 bhp as measured at the flywheel. dont expect miracles though
im guessing you're talking about what is more commonly known as astrut brace, in which case it will need some modifying as the distance from turret to turret doesnt quite match. If you have 17"s then you will notice a big difference
about 190 bhp is average for a std clutch to deal with from what i've seen.
Not sure how long they stand up to it though

im sure these questions have already been answered... if you're new and you have some questions do try and search for the answers first please

Thanks, i thought the questions would have been answered to but i've not really been able to find anything definitive in my searches.
Like with the rods, some say they bend at only 150rwhp others seem to be making lots more power but i've not found much mention of weather it's on built engines or on stock ones.
By ladder brace i mean the crank girdle that the CA18DET uses, not a strut brace.
Thanks again.

this is what he means by the ladder brace - has anyone over here used this??

with your t25g, intercooler, etc i think you would have quite a respectable motor, not too sure how well it would pull the r31 pintara along, how much does it weigh and have you got any pics of it?:)

s13eater 09-09-2006 09:29

mine has the crank girdle in out of the 200sx.

datdrift 09-09-2006 09:44

did you need to use longer bolts to fit the girdle, cos ive got a few det bottom ends lying around that i could pull one off:)

datdrift empty your PM box matey!

Nebuchernezzer 09-09-2006 11:21

The Pinny with the sound deadening removed and the air con removed should be around 1100kg-1150kg is my guess.
Lighter then my old SR powered Gazelle SGL anyways haha.
It's still a toss up here, i can get a CA18ET engine loom ECU and gearbox for $600 or i can get a CA18DE engine loom and ECU (no clutch/flywheel) for $200. I'm leaning towards the DE right now, it shouldn't cost me a great deal extra to turbo it and it'll bolt up to the existing Pintara gearbox.
But i have to have info to weigh up my options properly ;)
Thanks guys.

datdrift 09-09-2006 12:18

yeah but you probably wouldent be able to run more than 6/7psi on the de+t due to the higher compression ratio of the n/a engine so you would be limited for future mods?
pm box emptied:)

Nebuchernezzer 09-09-2006 23:43

Nah my S13 SR20DE+T conversion in the past was happy to run on 1bar or more.
9.5:1 compression seemed to be a sweet spot, 10:1 on the later S14/15 motors were limited by detonation when turbod though.
I'm expecting to be able to run 1 bar from T25G on the CA18DE.
Not to fussed about what happens after that the Pintara is a project with a budget of only $1000 complete.
