any 1992> s13 came with a viscous LSD as standard. Not the best LSD's in the world but better than an nasty open diff!

get one from a K-reg or newer and preferably one that hasn't been modded and especially drifted before

S12!

Hi guys,
I am new to the S12 scene. I have just bought myself an S12 1800cc turbo. I want to get to work on it straight away. I know my BMW's inside out and know where to source bits from, but with these I know nothing. I have a 1985 model with independent rear diff (not live). Two things I want to know at this point is can you get performance bushes for these cars (where?) and as I havent checked yet does my car have an LSD? I know logically there is an easy way to find out and a real easy way to find out but I have parked the car up for now and wanted to start on some facts first.
cheers

No LSD as standard

Just search for Poly Bushes on the forum and you should find all the information there ;)

Best search for posts by myself on the subject, its been covered a few times now

Here's the basics

You need the S13 diff, 2 left hand silvia shafts and one S13 inner 6 bolt CV joint housing and related driver side inner shaft....

Fully strip the S13 LSD, and removing the ring gear from it. Throw ring gear, case, shims etc in the bin

Then strip the S12 diff, and rebuild it with the S13 inner diff unit. ie bolt the S12 ring gear to the S13 unit.

Then the shafts need some work.

You use the short S12 shaft on the driver side with the S13 inner joint/inner

On the short side (passenger side) you can use the standard short shaft but you have to remachine so its like the S13 shaft.
