New to S12's but not 200's

Hi Chaps :)

Finally got my account activated it seems :D I have owned an S14a, for about year and a half, modded it to 280bhp the 'proper way' with avcr, fmic filter etc, but started with the important bits, and got bigger brakes, locking collars, coil-overs and wider wheels first :D I then sold it to an guy training to be a pro-racing instructor, for a lot less than I'd spent on it due to getting married, and needing to buy furniture. Loved the handling, not sure about the looks lol.

Been stuck with a clio (16v 1.8 but gets at least 36 to the gallon), that I am hating at the moment. Want to get back into RWD jap cars again, and really starting to like the look of the S12's. They seem to have a pretty heavy arse (too long), but I love the fronts. Real 80's mean, especially the rev2 (or whatever the official 'mark/phase/gen' is, with the full width slates below the pop ups.

Hoping to pick up a nice example from an S12 enthuthiast when I sell my clio and finally start to enjoy driving again :) I like to take active part in clubs as a member and share the knowledge I have (if any ;)).

Other cars i've owned are 2 MG Metros, mini 850cc, mini 1000cc, MG Metro Turbo, Nissan Primera, Metro GTi. Much prefer driving RWD now though, after having the 200, and love jap cars thanks to a LOT of sensible design they seem to have compared to other countries.

Oh and I really just found this site by trawling trying to find stuff out about S12's. Seems like there is a huge lack of suspension options for these cars though. Is there any realistic coil-over option, or aftermarket alignment bits you can get (camber correction etc).

Anyway, hope I can be a a valued member here :) I'm also on SXOC (a member) as Scougar, so can check me out for my rep there if needed.

Hey Danny,

Nice to see you :) I think you just keep teasing me with it and will never actually sell it as you like it too much! lol

get the best example you can obviously. Your best to get an f or g plate in manual. (sorry danny:o ) Theres loads of info on here about things you can do. There are new custom developments being done on the cars by members all the time.
Welcome to s12oc:)

Always good to hear about new developments. Obviously I realise with the much smaller owner base that any development for these cars would be more expensive :( Still, there is hope :D

See what happens with the clio. If I can sell it for close to what I bought it for last year, then game on... otherwise might have to keep it :( Will see.. really missing a car I enjoy though thats for sure.

Looks like someone might be interested in our mk3 golf 1.8 gl auto. For some reason (according to the manual likely electrical), it won't auto shift in any gears, but can select manually (If I knew what the problem was I'd drive it myself!). One step closer to an s12 if it sells :D

well hello and welcome to the site :)

im sure u already know but there isnt anything that these guys dont know about s12s!

Speedycougar 05-11-2007 15:37

Ta for the welcome :)

Purchased (and waiting to arrive) a vag-com compatible cable from ebay so I can read/clear the fault codes for the VW Golf, as I believe it's in 'limp home' mode for some bizarre reason. If that's the case, means I can flog the clio asap and get the golf mot'd and flogged also :D (or drive for a while I suppose, but hopefully get an S12 :D)

Waiting for a OBD I diagnostic cable from Hong Kong to turn up so I can sort out why the Mk3 Golf automatic, I have in the garage is in limp home mode. Soon as that's sorted (if possible), I'll fix the brakes and MOT the car and use it whilst I fix the clio (clio's clutch release bearing needs replacing 'I think', the clutch itself seems fine as it doesn't slip. Just anything mildly spirited and the clutch pedal gets clicky and excessive force is needed to push it down). And then... can sell both cars :D

One step closer to a nice S12 :D
