Engine tune questions

Hi guys, me & a mate just bought an S12 and have done a huge amount of work to prepare it for next year. As can be seen here in the photo's:D

We want to use it for drifting so we have caged it all up, bucket seats, and welded the diff up to name a few mods. We have a few questions about engine tuning. We have fitted a massive FMIC so have increased lag.
How do you increase fuel pressure? can you fit a valve to restrict the flow back to the tank or is a 255lph pump the only way to go?
How do you increase boost to match fueling?
How do you know if it is running lean or not?
What offset and centres do the wheels have? or what oyher wheels fit? ie rover 200?
Many thanks for your advice in advance.
Hans

get an aftermarket fuel reg ie: fse glenco fixed rate reg, you can increase the pressure behind the injectors, usually they run rich anyway, i ran 18psi on a t25 with a cossy i/c, so with that you should be ok, the cheap way is to run a cold start injector on a boss before the throttle body, with a pressure swith into the plenum, then have it on the dyno, they with check your fueling and timing etc.

Nice work.Did you make the cage?

the nearside intercooler hose looks like it may be one for reguler 'pop offs' lol

Question for you: is that a bolt in cage or have you had it custom made or fabbed it yourself?

Good work btw looking good

wheels are 4 by 114 with a 35offset basically most jap 4 studs will fit ie 4stud hondas etc

i want a cage like that where did you get it ?

what other performance mods has it got other then fmic?
what strut brace is that as well fanx?

Hi Hans,
That`s looking really good. Sorry I can`t offer any advice, but I would love to know, where you got your strut brace from as well.
Regards,
Ian.

Thanks for your advice guys, I will look into that and keep you all posted on the progress. That hose you said about has been adjusted and reclamped since the pics and should hold fingers X.;)
In answer to your many questions, I am a welder fabricator by trade for 20 years & have the added benefit of being the works manager at my workshop in Peterborough, cambs.
So, yes, I did design and fabricate this non FIA cage and it is welded in as bolt in ones are weeker and more complex & therfore more time consuming.
If any of you are local and have a spare £300 cash and dont mind leaving the car with me for a couple of weeks, let me know and I may be interested.

I also made the strut brace ends and was donated an old Skyline alloy cross bar which worked a treat. Again, if some of you are genuenly interested then I may be up for making a few. Would be about £60 each, I would need a few orders to justify getting some alloy bar and tube etc..

I also made my own air intake box (though this is a one of due to head light conversion & relocating various components to make way for one of intercooler pipe)and MAF adaptor plate for the cone filter to bolt to, I can make loads of these in stainless steel for about £10 each.

Cheers, Hans.:)

if your gonna use it for drifting i would advise fitting some steering rack spacers if you havent already, and if your going for 3rd gear+ probably a t25 for a bit more grunt?

H8NSKPAUL 13-11-2007 20:41

Steering rack spacers...interesting....to get more lock to lock.
What do you recomend size wise?
Cheers.
