Missing holes in head gasket?

Hi,

I blew my gasket after a track session, i'd like to know if in those circles some hole are missing: (on a new genuine Nissan headgasket the holes are inexistant):

Under those area there are water galleries. What do you think about?

What are the final torque on bolts do you apply? According the fsm, it's a torque "area" not a final one.

Thanks ;)

Hiya,
According to the bible ;) :
1). First tighten all bolts to 29 Nm (22 ft-lbs).
2). Then tighten all bolts to 78 Nm (58 ft-lbs).
3). Loosen all bolts completely.
4). Re-tighten all bolts to 29 Nm (22 ft-lbs).
5). Re-tighten all bolts to 74 to 83 Nm (54 to 61 ft-lbs), or with an angle wrench turn all bolts 90 to 95 degrees clockwise.

That does sound a bit vague for the final tightening though and there`s no mention of having to re-torque the bolts after running the engine.

Hope this helps anyway :D .
Regards,
Ian.

Nissan sometimes block off holes on a HG so as to keep flow in a certain area to prevent hot-spots. On the cherry turbo engine they had a problem with this and they modified the HG and moved some water holes and it fixed the problem. I would fit the gasket as you recieved it and torque it as the book says

Thanks guys, i'll fit the new gasket with your advices.
I'll torque finally at 80 N.M according my wrench.

It isn't mentionned that some engine oil must be applied on bolts, what do you think about?

P.S: no Nissan dealer can supply the longest bolt in France! They mailed in Japan but have no delay.

You`re welcome.

I wouldn`t put oil on the bolts as this could cause extra pressure on the block when the bolts are tightened. The manual does not mention the bolts needing oil, I guess as long as the threads are clean, the bolts should be ok :D .

Ian.
