Steering Rack Spacers

Hi all, has been a while since I have been on the site. Was just reading some other threads and often steering rack spacers are mentioned. I understand that this will move the rod end out wards but how does this help lock to lock? surly you would need to have longer arms to benifit from this?
can someone explain please??
Cheers

The steering wheel is unaffected so you should be ok, no need for major plastic surgery.

On a serious note, as far as I'm aware adding spacers to the rack effectively makes the tie rod's longer.

The inside ball joint of the track rods is pretty large, when the rack is on full lock the ball joint locks up against the rack.

By using washers, you move the ball joint further away and therefore it locks later.

The car will ideally need retracking afterwards.

ah I see, so it isnt to do with greater track then, simply to allow the rack to travel further in either direction.

Hi guys,
Did any of you take dimensions of the diameter internally and externally? it looks about 5mm thick to me which should add quite a few degrees to the angle of the wheels.
This would be jolly useful as this is our next mod.

Hans.
