screamer or not?????????????

just ordered a new turbo for my s12, so do i fit a screamer pipe? my car is mainly a track car so i'm ltd to 98db. will a screamer be too loud. this is my 1st turbo car so i apolagise if i'm asking stupid questions??

also do anyone know of a aftermarket exhaust manifold? or if a ca18det will fit?

CNHSS1 races his SS1 reliant and that has a external waste-gate, pm him.

The CA18DET exhaust mani wont fit as a straight swap but an aftermarket one can be modded to fit. CNHSS1 did this to his and i am sure there are pictures somewhere
KEN made his own mani from scratch with good results :)

above is the original thread, although some of the pics have been deleted, but work your way through.
Ext wastegate is a pain in terms of fabrication but the boost doesnt spike and is super stable. with the extra gasses exiting to the atmosphere (rather than rejoining the main exh) theres less back pressure restriction meaning a 2.5" system is fine for near 300hp. with internal wastegate it would probably need a 3" system which would be tight to fit in my car.

Anyway to use an external without gettings the chavs all excited though ?

What is a screamer pipe anyway ?

Re: Screamer pipe

Hi,

I've got a stainless screamer pipe for sale will fit t25-t28 turbo, complete with gaskets. Only used for a couple of months and is as new condition.

Selling as breaking engine, £30 posted.

Thanks
Simon

Its just a seperate exh from the wastegate itself to vent the extra gasses after the preset boost level has been reached. i think the yanks came up with the screamer term as once the ext wastegate opens the screamer pipe is essentially an unsilenced exh:eek:
ebay has loads of screamer elbows which arent the real deal (no performance advantage) they can sound a bit pants and often bugger up the idle/low speed running of the car. only way is a proper ext wastgate imho if you want to improve performance and reduce spiking

to stop them being loud, you can re-join the screamer pipe back into the main exhaust. best bet is to rejoin minimum of 5ft from the turbo though or itll be a restriction (two lots of exh gasses squeezed into one pipe straight after the turbo)

does that make sense? does in my head, but let me know and i will try and explain better:)

I'll stick them up later, dont think Rich is on much at the moment

ok so would it be possible to silence the external wastegate or does this defete the object. but it needs to say under 98db I'm not looking for serious power as in my opinion 200 whp and car weight @ 1000kg this would make he car both reliable and fun.
