Hi,

I've had a few engines shipped from japan and the cost is cheaper than you would imagine. The following is taken from a quote for 3 engines and 2 gearboxes, but it says the freight charge per m3 as well. The prices are in Yen so the amount you pay depends on exchange rate. If the engines cost less than 200,000 yen then you don't pay the extra customs charge. You will obviously have to pay import duty and vat when they arrive here.

ocean freight charge US$78/M3 (@103.70JPY) 2.0M3 16,177
CFS charge 3,980JPY/M3 2.0M3 7,960
CHC 340JPY/M3 2.0M3 680
broker charge 12,000
customs charge over 200,000JPY 5,900
customs inspection charge 3,000
premium 3,000
corresponding bank charge 1,500

In general the engines are in excellent condition, are stored in the dry with all ports covered and usually low mileage. Some will also come with looms, some don't, it depends who removed the engine.
Also included in the above is the agent charge for finding the engines, having the engines shipped to the dock and packed and loaded, so a single engine would have a cheaper broker charge etc.

Hope it helps.

At the risk of repeating a datman thread a SR20/DET would be a much more likely prospect, though possibily less interesting.
