advice on mk1 ET oil filter mounting

Hi Guys,
bit of a weird one for you...

im only familiar with Mk2 silvia motors that have a 90deg alloy casting that bolts to the block, onto which the oil filter screws, and then above it sits the oil cooler widget. i believe the mk1s didnt use the alloy 90deg casting, but the oil cooler was sandwiched straight to the block in between the oil filter and block? is this correct?
if so has anyone got any pics? also has anyone got the fitting that screws into the block itself? the mk2s screw in but dont have a thread on the end that fits into the 90deg ally housing.

Edited***

afte5r checking, yes that correct, mine is mk1 engine has sandwiched oil cooler, after looking at FAST at the mk2 engine, i see the difference, and my old mk2 engine was like you say.

the fitment on the mk1 engine is, you fit the oil cooler to the block with a long hollow extension piece, that tightens up the oil cooler to the block, once tight, you then screw on the oil filter as you normally would.

cant get my FAST copy to work
does the extension piece screw into the block replacing the item with the slot in it pictured in the first pic with the blue block, or is it two pieces i.e. into the block, then another to extend thru the oil cooler and provide the thread into the filter?

can someone sell me the bits i need from a scrapped Mk1 engine? dont need the oil cooler, just the extension bits please?

basically its like a hollow length of studding, with a nut welded near one end, you do it up like a bolt to tighten the oil cooler, the thread on the other side is where you screw on the oil filter.

dunno what the difference is.

hope this helps,

Cheers Umpkin, thats spot on :)

if thats the only bit you need, why not order it from nissan, prolly cheaper than whole block.

no use if your in a hurry, but im looking to out my mk1 engine for a mk2 one when money is there for me to do it, so ill have one to get rid then, but i dont suspect it will be for a while as my company has just made a few layoffs, so no overtime to provide extra cash.

northerner has one for me too, hes only 5 mile down the road, so frustrating that i cant just go get it :(

hopefully my manager has a meeting on monday, if we get the contract, we have lots of work again instead of the "get us by" we have atm.

bit of an update on this.

i managed to get a mk1 silvia threaded oil cooler tube of Doski (cheers :)) but it doent have the threaded adaptor for the block and not sure even if it did it would retro fit to the MK2 block anyway, so i improvised.

this is a threaded adaptor with a thread to match the block one side and the threaded cooler tube the other

next step is your choice.
if dumping the oil/waetr cooler, then a sandwhich plate with balcnking cover to go to a remote filter and seperate oil/air cooler (mocal 13row or similar) can be fitted.

if you want to retain the oil/water cooler like i do, you will need a different tubular adaptor than the mk1 silvia as its too long. going to source a shorter one, so will keep you posted.

gives a bit more room in that area and reduces the weight (both helpful on my car ;))
