Crazy thought on wheels

hi all, i've recently purchased a set of 4x114 13" Weller steel wheels that were goin cheap & i couldnt resist. problem is, when i tried them on my S12 they didnt clear the brakes :furious

in a moment of insanity / boredom i tried bolting them on back to front & they fit. my imagination started running wild & i thought maybe this could work if i was to weld up & relocate the tyre valve to prevent the caliper from ripping it off then fit some plastic arch extensions to pass an mot???

my only concern is the hub bolts / wheel bearings, would they be able to take the stress? i've not been smoking crack... i've just got too much time on my hands thats all ;)

studs/nuts strength shouldnt be an issue, but the wellers have a taper on the front of the mounting hole, which may not be on the rear. It might mean that they dont stay tight as teh taper on the nuts seats in the taper on the wheels.

you could of course try it and check nuts regularly

do you think plenty of locktight would help? the only thing i'm worried about is the bolts snapping if i hit a pothole or take a corner at high speed

Thats guna look good.

Once ive got my intercooler fitted im going down that route.

What plans do you have on the suspension?

i wouldnt loctite wheel studs, but if its the extra cornering loading due to the extra offset, it'll be a small increase compared to the huge loadings when hitting a pot hole with standard wheels/tyres. The extra width wont affect those loads really (more vertical and impact loadings, than cornering 'steady state' loads)

Obviously if you are worried, change all the studs to new ones from Nissan or aftermarket versiosn from Rally Design (RalDes) in Kent

for the fronts i've ground down the standard shocks & added a lip for a threaded sleeve to sit with a 2 1/4" coil springs, basically making my own coilover. for the rears i've got KYB shocks & i'm still awaiting for -40mm springs to arrive from South Yorkshire Springs

your going to need arch extensions. that would be my first main issue of concern.

i'm currently working on the arches cos there was a few blebs of rust that i've sanded out, i really need to get some tyres on these to see if/how the car will sit on them, mite have to trim some arch away & stick those rivet on fibreglass extensions... will look cool
