Air Leak
 

I finished fitting the T25 and was enjoying the new power (for 2 days) when BANG, it started sounding like a tractor with what sounded like and exhaust leak.

I suspected the original S12 Turbo Elbow as I used 3 bolts as suggested elsewhere on here. So picked an S13 Elbow up from SXOC and fitted this cutting off the obligatory gearbox lug to make it fit.

Everything tightened up and still the horrible sound. Took it to Custompipes in Doncaster and had a FABBO full stainless system make up for £300 and still the horrible sound.

When you put your hand up the engine side of the exhaust/elbow joint from underneath you can feel the leak but Ryan at Custompipes is adamant it is coming from above somewhere and I would believe it looking at his workmanship on the exhaust.

Where would this be coming from, I am sure everything is tightened up properly and yet I still have the leak. So frustrating:confused:

Sounds like it could be the manifold mine did the same as one of the studs had come undone.

seconded. best way to check things like this is start it cold and get your hands in there. you've gota good minute or 2 at idle before things become unbearable.

I once found an annoying crack in a manifold using an Insense stick :wack

Light the end and use the smoke is the first indicator but when you get close to the leak the lit end glows brighter, proper :ghey but it worked! I guess a firework lighting stick will do the same.

If you've still got the grotty viscous fan you'll have stop it from turning or all you'll end up with the the feint whiff of "tree huggers living room"

I shouldn't say anything really, after all..... I had the incense stick to start with!

found it, leak on the manifold on the Rounded off nut underneath that I couldnt get off. B...stard Thing.

Took it to a couple of different places for help who I think saw me coming a mile off and didnt want to get involved.

Any ideas guys, this is frustrating the hell out of me

how much thread do you have to go until the nut comes off? if you can get 2 half nuts on you can just pull the stud, or if the nuts all the way at the loose end i would try a hacksaw blade just behind the nut (you want as uch thread on the stud left as possible to remove it)

its still tight so 2 half nuts would go on, what do you mean by pull the stud.

I have been searching the net for anything and everyting to get rounded nuts off.

Metrinch, Grip-Tite, Irwin Bolt Grip, Etc
