Exhaust
Hi to all,
Any idea who makes ss exhaust for the S12 |
Hi mate im sure i explained before elsewhere on the forum that you would need to get a custom exhasut made up by whoever is closest to you:)
|
there are not any off the shelf exhaust systems for the s12. The design is not very complicated though. Buy a universal silencer of yor choice and take it to a place like longlife or a powerflow with decent reputation. Or if you are good with a welder buy some 2 3/4" tube(my preference on dia) and weld up your own using the original rotating flange from the standard system.
|
scorpion used to make a system, it was really really restrictive though.
I made a 2.5 inch system for Lou's car it's a bit of a bodge but it freed up so much power!!! if you can weld or know someone who can, buy some 2.5 inch bends (you don't need bigger than that for a LOT of power) and make up a system, I think you could do something really nice for £100 and a days work |
the 2 3/4" was my personal preference as i tried a 2 1/2" system and a 2 3/4" system with the same backbox and design and front flange and the 2 3/4" was noticebly better. this was with a front mount intercooled et engine with a standard turbo at 1 bar boost. I wouldnt normally expect it to be needed on 215bhpish flywheel figure but that was the performance results i felt :) .But this is just one engine. i have not tried the same test out on other s12's/engines
I need to make myself a new system at some point this year. i think a 2 3/4" will still be sufficient at around 270bhp. mines just a little bit patchwork quilt from having so many different turbos, backboxes and manifolds.i will definatly make this one myself |
i used a 2 1/2 inch system @ 276bhp, but i've had a 3 inch stainless one made since then.

I'm on 2 1/4"...

Hi, thanks to everyone that's helped me out so far much appreciated.
I want to keep the noise as low as possible on my car - is a 2 1/2" system with a straight through back box much noisier than the std. system?. Which back box do you recommend using or do you make up your own ? |
you could use what size you want, but just put a staight through middle box in if you want to keep the noise down.
