Advice on locating parts , please.

Hi all.

I need two rear shock absorbers, two front wheel bearings and both rear axle bushes.

I've found a couple of UK sites - bestpartstore and japarts - that have shocks and bearings but I'm having difficulty locating the bushes.
I'd rather not get poly bushes if possible.

Any recommendations?

Thanks for the advice, mate.

I was told if using poly bushes then all four should be replaced.

I'm thinking of changing my shocks. The back end is so soft and sloppy it bucks around and bottoms out I think. Is this likely to be the shocks, and what sites have you found that do the shocks?

Hi mate,

I have tried various sites and cannot find new shocks anywhere.

I managed to get two secondhand ones from Paul. Try contacting him - details below.

Ebay has them

I use uprated KYB 300zx Z31 rear shocks, but I also run 300zx rear springs (they might be a tad taller, but I don't think there is that much in them.

I might have one or two S12 ones knocking about, I'm not working this weekend so might have a tidy up and stock take!

Does anyone else's springs sort of fall out when the car is jacked up?? Mine has failed it's mot for both of them

No, but mine is jacked up, rather than lowered.

We had a similar problem on the lada rally cars, we used old seat belts to limit the drop of the axle, it worked a treat and was basically free. Doubled up and burnt a hole through them and bolted them with the top shock bolt and top link on the axle.

I'd try something similar, unless you find some short shocks that fit and are up to the job.
It's been a while since I looked are the rear of the S12, but a strap from the top mount of the shock to the bottom should do the trick. Length wise you'd have to do figure it out on the car. Get it on axle stands, the the suspension drop, find the lowest point before the springs start to become total uncompressed and limit it just a touch higher. Make two strap s the same.
I'd retain the springs aswell for a belt and braces approach.

Or if you want to do a proper job, chop the turret tops out and make taller ones.
