Gearbox

Hi All,

Currently i'm working on my gearbox of my s12. I have to open the gearbox to replace a bearing.

I have a problem to open the gearbox. My english sucks and i don't know how to explain my question properly so i made some pictures, i don't know how to upload these on this forum so they can be seen on these links:

To open the gearbos it seems necessery to remove the end. There has been welded on the end(marked in red). Does anyone know if this is original done?

Has anyone experience with it? Maybe i have to drill it out, but i dont know for sure?

Thanks!!:)

Frank

Your very brave ! Which bearing are you changing and how sure are you you know which one it is ? Probably better to get another box, I have a good MKI box as a spare.
The bit you say that has been welded is normal. According to the Factory Manual you don't need to remove the shift linkage to open the case. The nut you have taken off should have a C clip on the other side. The manual states with the box standing up remove all the bolts on the case the lightly tap the rear extension which is on the bottom side to the linkage and it should just slip off. Just a hint but make sure its not in gear.

Your info was right i just opened the gearbox:D

I'm not sure which bearing it is, but i'm pretty sure that the problem is in the gearbox. When i took the oil off there where parts of a bearring in the oil, looks like there has been a war in it:eek: . I havent found the broken bearring yet, but i will know it soon i hope:)

By the way i'm from the netherlands so transporting a gearbox will be somewhat expensive i think, but thanks anyway, i will keep it in mind cause s12 parts are very rare in the netherlands.

Thanks Northerner! I'm not very lucky cause the broken bearring is the one on the adapter plate so i have te remove all the components:(

for now it's going well, i have almost removed all components and i'm almost ready to replace the bearring:D

i made a picture of the bearring:eek:

My word that looks like its had it!. When its done you will have to do a write up. Whilst your there replace the syncros as they are notorious on these gearbox's !:D

Just made a testride with the repaired gearbox!!:D Everything workes very good, no more strange sounds..

By the way, didnt change the syncros cause i hadn't have a problem with changing gear when driving and cause i have i time limit, and ordering takes to much time. I live with my parents and they are on holliday now but when they get back and see al the mess i can search for another home:( :p
