what does this relay do?

can anyone tell me what the white relay situated next to the battery does, as one's burnt thru with battery acid on a friends car.....

i called them a month or 2 ago and he wanted like £80 odd quid for a pair!
£30 for each spring £10 p&p and £10 odd vat.....he wouldent do a better price so i left them.

i run 5mm spacers, i think driftworks stock some 3mm ones for the s13 that fit? s12's have shit lock as standard so this is one of the best drift mods for them otherwise your be forever spinning out...

if your gonna use it for drifting i would advise fitting some steering rack spacers if you havent already, and if your going for 3rd gear+ probably a t25 for a bit more grunt?
